Flood signs with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in KHL:

Mark Flood is taking his services overseas.

After appearing in a career-high 33 games with the Winnipeg Jets last season, Flood couldn’t come to terms with the club as an unrestricted free agent and has signed with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the Kontinental Hockey League.

Flood’s agent Mark Guy confirmed the news on Sunday afternoon.

Flood, a solid depth defenceman, had three goals and seven points for the Jets last season and has appeared in 39 NHL games during his eight-year professional career.

The 27-year-old from Charlottetown, P.E.I. will be reunited with Yaroslavl Lokmomotiv head coach Tom Rowe, who was Flood’s bench boss during parts of two seasons with the Albany River Rats in the Carolina Hurricanes organization.

Yaroslavl Lokomotiv is returning to KHL competition in 2012-13 after last September’s tragic plane crash wiped out their season.

Flood was originally a sixth round (188th overall) pick of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Cherepanov, the plane crash. What I can recall. Their track record of safety is questionable. Yes, it's pretty good for the most part though, but I would still be a little iffy about it. But the NHL is safer. If Pavelec had collapsed in the KHL instead, like he did in Atlanta, he might have been worse off. Same deal with Zednik.
