[Discussion] Acquiring Bobby Ryan

Recommended Posts

With FA signings at an all time high, Doan is guaranteed to get more than Ryans 5.1M salary that's a steal for a upward trending star who hasn't even entered his prime. His stats are way higher than Doans anyways.

In light of the Nash trade, our situation looks even better. Rick Nash, 5-time all-star, went for some spare parts. The most probable suitors for Ryan have been BUF, NYR, and PHI but both NYR and have made recent acquisitions that prevent them for making a bid at Ryan leaving only BUF. Hopefully like the Rangers, they'll lowball and be patient making it easier for us to step in and take him

To Anaheim: Edler, Raymond, 1st

To Vancouver: Ryan+ Defenseman?

Im really not sure what is fair but that's just what I've been thinking.

Crazy idea here for getting Bobby Ryan - Schroeder, Higgins, Hansen & wait for it... Raymond! Out of this bunch they (Ducks) can make a decent 3rd line and make for the loss in goals and may have a 2nd liner in Schroeder.

OH, and PS: The Weber deal just failed

You make it sound like Edler is therefore worthless in a trade just because his contract is expiring. Well I guess Ryan might be heading to PHI but Anaheim needs help on the blue line. Since everyone thinks that idea is so terrible (WARNING: This might be worse). What if it were

To Anaheim: Edler Luongo 1st

To Vancouver: Hiller Ryan

Maybe we could pawn Hiller to TOR in exchange for some pieces.

Edler is not worthless in a trade, but Anaheim isn't exactly the most desirable team to play for (Although its not bad). If you were Edler would you want to sign a long term deal there? If Anaheim is willing to overpay to keep him there then he may stay, otherwise I would see him testing the UFA waters after next season (Pending CBA agreement). In this case Anaheim loses Ryan and Edler and only keeps Raymond and a late first rounder. The risk is too high versus the potential payoff, so thats why Anaheim doesn't do it.

I would say your second proposal is an over payment by us. Edler is roughly equal Ryan if not slightly less. And Luongo and a 1st is worth more then Hiller IMO. I wouldn't do it.

No way we get rid of Edler. With a top 4 of Hamhuis,Edler,Bieksa and Garrison along with blossoming prospects in Tanev and K-Conn

We have one of the best defences in the league if not the best.

IMHO the best possible outcome out of this off-season would be to sign Doan, as well as trade Luongo to Florida for Weiss+.

Top 9:

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows

Booth-Kesler-Doan

Higgins-Weiss-Hansen

Looks pretty solid to me.

I really doubt he would want to go there, but I actually see Columbus as a good trade partner for Anaheim. They could offer up a prospect D which they have a few,One of their Centers maybe Brassard they have three first round picks plus whatever else.

Vancouver

Ryan

Franson

Anaheim 1st 2013

Anaheim

Luongo

Booth

Toronto 1st 2013

Toronto

Hiller

Vancouver 2nd 2013

In this deal I feel that everyone's return is proportional to what they give up. Toronto get's their number 1 guy, Anaheim get's the Top 10 guy they've been missing since Giguere (Hiller has been up and down for them), Canucks get the bruising power forward that can play now and don't have to give up Edler.

I could see this as a reality should Vancouver fail to sign Doan.
