The Philadelphia Flyers announced that defenceman Andrej Meszaros had surgery to repair a torn right achillies tendon and will be out indefinitely.

"Andrej was injured last week during summer training in Slovakia," confirmed GM Paul Holmgren in a statement. Meszaros had seven goals and 18 assists for the Flyers last season.

More to follow.

man, the Flyers, lol.

Missed out on Suter, didn't land Weber, lost Carle, Pronger's not coming back. Philly's blueline looks terrible.

I wonder if Holmgren will overreact and deal for Bouwmeester or something stupid lol.

Timonen will be 37-and-a-half by the start of the season. And after him, it's:

Coburn

Schenn

Grossman

Bourdon

Lilja

Gervais

If Timonen doesn't lose a step, Schenn improves, and they all stay healthy (3 BIG maybes), that is still barely a playoff-team-calibre defense.

Carchidi thinks that Luke Schenn now moves up to the 2nd pairing, with Bruno Gervais and one of the kids on the 3rd pairing. Andreas Lilja as the extra defenseman.

My guess is that L. Schenn goes to second D pairing, and Gervais and one of the kids on 3d pairing -- with Lilja the extra D man.

Their back end has taken a hit this summer. Given their goalie issues last yr, can't imagine Holmgren feels comfortable right now.

But he played some pretty weak mins for them last 2 yrs. It's the basically equivalent of Canucks losing Ballard. But since they already lost Carle who played relatively tough mins for them, they def need another top 4 guy. Maybe they try Schenn there, but that's a risk I wouldn't be willing to take.

Funny how everybody here was praising Holmgren because he offer-sheeted Weber and Gillis didn't make a crazy move. Meanwhile Philly's blue line is crumbling while our's has improved, our goaltending, no matter what, is still amongst the best in the league, and there's still possible return coming from one of our superstar goaltenders in a trade.
