This being the last day till the draft, just like to say something before the draft begins and ends. Being a lifelong Pats fan, if there's one thing I certainly know about Bill Belichick at the draft, it's nothing really. What do I mean you may say? In that he is unpredictable when it comes to the draft and he always seems to do something most never thought of. He seems to always go off the radar and magically getting things done and not go the mainstream route. Think he'll take player a, b or c? Come draft day, he'll end up taking player j. It's mind boggling at the time but then it hits us like always that In Bill We Trust. He really is a mastermind and you never know what he'll do come draft day.

With the Pats needing some defensive help and most of the media outlets saying we'll either take one of Dee Ford, Ra'shede Hageman, or Louis Nix III with our 1st, don't be surprised if none are picked. In fact, knowing Bill's past trends, I personally want them to take one of those 3 but know it's unlikely BB will take one of them because it's just who he is. He doesn't want any team knowing his plans and he disrupts what they predict so he has the upper hand almost always.

...Will be fun to see what all teams do come tomorrow and looks like a pretty talented draft class. Also, anyone know what times the draft will begin?

12) New York Giants - TE Eric Ebron

Now I am not up to date on all the prospects so I won't comment to much individually on them. But the only reason to take a TE in the 1st round is if it is a Graham, Gronkowski type pass catching guy. The Giants don't generally operate that way though and only use guys who are blockers first then hope they can catch(ex. we used Bear Pascoe as a TE and FB for quite a while). Now Ebron could be good at blocking but then it is unlikely the Giants see it as a value pick, their M.O. over the past years has been late round/UDFA TEs. After losing Tuck and some other interior Dlineman I think either side of the line is where we go with the pick either offensive or defensive depending on who falls. But that is what is exciting I guess, anything can happen.

Lots of people saying he is a Graham type playmaker who can line up as a tight end, receiver, slot guy, whatever you need. Plus with how badly Eli struggled last year, while alot was not very great o-line play was a factor, giving him a dependable weapon would no doubt help him out.

I didn't know however that they like blocking guys first so if that's true they may take a flyer on him. From what I read he is just an average blocker. But looking at their roster it is a pretty weak looking postition.

btw saw your sig and want to give props to I think the only other Celtic fan on this site

Yea most of our TEs are basically just extra Olinemen to establish the run. Then when teams stop looking there we sneak em out the back for a catch or two. Marcellus Bennett was our best pass catching TE since Shockey and we only got him because he was under Witten in Dallas so he came cheap. Our past guys like Boss, Ballard, Pascoe, etc. were all with run game in mind. Eli's bread and butter is play action so he always does better with balance. Ballard was my favorite I liked to say he would out slow people, defenders would sit and wait on him then he'd always shrug off at least one guy so even though it was only a 5 yard dump it almost always was a 1st down, sometimes more if there was a break down. He was a throw back for sure. I guess we did get a new OC after Gilbride resigned and he could have different views. It will be interesting to see.

Yea I fell in love with the Celtics when they got Garnett and have just stayed ever since. They're having a down year but at least it is in the interest of turning it around, I'm excited to see what they can build in the next few seasons.

As much as I love Manziel, no knock on him, but I'd actually take Bortles over him. Bortles has NFL size and is a lot more conservative with his plays with far less risk than compared to Johnny Football. Now I believe Manziel has the higher ceiling than Bortles and more chances of becoming a game breaker but I also see him having more of a bust chance too. He does have solid mechanic and techniques now but still think it's a gamble.

Plus Bortles reminds me of Philip Rivers with his massive size and solid QB ability. Drafting someone like that is a success in my mind over a riskier pick in JohnnyT.

Texans may look to trade the #1 pick and then take a QB later on. They need a QB, but don't want to draft one at #1.

Mike Mayock has also Bortles going to Tennessee at 11 in one of his mock drafts, Manziel to Cowboys at 16 as well

"Ryan Mallett, the New England Patriots third-round pick from Arkansas in the 2011 NFL Draft, is rumored to be headed down south to the Houston Texans.

Tom Curran, the Patriots’ long-time beat reporter for CSNNE.com, tweeted that the trade possibility between Houston and New England is imminent.

@tomecurran:

A source tells me Ryan Mallett to the Texans may soon be done.

1:19 PM - 8 May 2014

@tomecurran:

Second source says nothing doing at the moment on Mallett to Houston. We'll watch how it plays out. Makes sense if Clowney is No. 1.

1:33 PM - 8 May 2014

Mallett, 27, has took the field as Tom Brady’s backup as long as he’s been in the NFL. The Patriots have a history of sending Brady’s colleagues to different teams.

After playing a full season in 2008 due to #12′s ACL tear, Matt Cassel and outside linebacker Mike Vrabel were traded to the Kansas City Cheifs for a the 34th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. In 2012, Brian Hoyer was released by the Patriots and signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers before landing a starting job in Cleveland.

Mallett has completed on pass for 17 yards in his career with the Pats."

Sucks if true. Mallet seemed like a sure steal when he was drafted and now reportedly to be traded probably for a mid round pick. Hasn't really had a chance to play at the NFL level and odd considering BB would give up on him so quickly :/
