Grapefruits
Watching the game at UBC like that made for a solid experience. The game itself was underwhelming in a lot of ways, but standing and watching it a few feet from the sidelines and interacting with the team directly was a nice bonus that is hard to replicate. The O-line still looks like it will be crap. QBs all looked pretty good last night. It was definitely an experience. I sat up on the hill at about the 50 and had a blast! Food was crap though. Figured the burgers were going to be awesome when I saw the charcoal, boy was a I wrong. No cheese either. WTF? Lulay looked decent considering it was his first game back. Liked the look of the kickers. Missed a couple field goals. One that should have been made easily, but overall not bad. Could definitely kick for height and distance on the punting side. Panoramic from last night: Didn't think the O line looked all that bad. Though I did sit and think "Here we go again" a few times. g_bassi13
Last year was already bad enough for QB's, offense, and excitement in general, so I would prefer everyone stay healthy for a year this tine around.

Apple Juice
Well, they asked him to retire first. This is just him exploring his chances with another team. The guy could still kick last year, accurately at least. His punting was the issue, has been for a while. Maybe they didn't want another year with a designated punter. Lions continuing to show little loyalty to vets. At the end of the day, it's all business and this is a sport. Wally was doing what he thought was best for the team moving forward and if McCallum isn't the right guy for the job anymore, then so be it. Move on. oldnews
Anyone else think this league is going absolutely no where until they change from 3 to 4 downs? I started off watching CFL football and as I got older moved towards the NFL and now when I try to watch CFL its just unwatchable. You've the best quarterbacks in the world playing in the NFL then AFL and then scraps left over for the CFL and arena football. 3 downs would be incredibly difficult for NFL quarterbacks to maintain drives when you have washed up QB's it just makes for extremely boring football. The change of possession every minute is just dumb. I can understand the CFL wanting to be different than the NFL but if they plan to keep the 3 down system this league is never going to be anything but a bush league. The CFL would be so much better off with 4 downs. Americans would actually watch it you would actually get some better players in the league which would lead to more than handful of teams hell you might even be able to get some teams in the states where the NFL won't expand to. I just think this league can grow so much bigger if you just get rid of this ridiculous 3 down system. You haven't really thought about it much, or understand the differences in the games (NFL and CFL). The CFL field is considerably larger. It's as simple as that. 4 downs in CFL football would tilt the field so much in the offense's favour that it would devolve the game. The size of the field is significant - the additional width means that CFL linemen need to be relatively mobile - there is considerabley more ground to cover. I remember when Sacramento joined the CFL - thinking they were going to walk in and dominate the league. First of all, their O and D lines were too large and not mobile enough for the CFL game. They soon learned that their team, built for American style football, could not really compete in the CFL, certainly not against the better Canadian teams. The irony was the fact that Americans at the time were referring to the CFL as the "C" league, thinking it was inferior to the "B" league - the USFL. American expansion teams were failures until they realized the crucial differences in the game. The first really successful expansion team - despite the "advantage" of not being required to fill a quota of Canadian born players - was Baltimore - and their success was built on American veterans of the CFL game. The CFL may not be the NFL - but it's a better football league than most casual observers think. It does attract/require a somewhat different kind of athlete than the NFL, something that imo has lent to the quality of the game. Many athletes - equally talented to their larger counterparts but overlooked - (usually for somewhat small-minded reasons) - have had great careers in the CFL - particularly quarterbacks considered too short for the American game. Doug Flutie may have been a turning point in that trend, as his success - and his game-calling ability - imo changed the NFL. 20 years ago, guys like Russell Wilson were earmarked for the CFL. Players like Warren Moon would never have had professional careers were it not for the CFL. The complete failure of certain NFL "stars" - like Vince Ferragamo - to cut it in the CFL also opened some eyes - some Americans started to question their superiority complex. In addition, the innovations to the game - of highly mobile CFL quarterbacks - imo also changed the complexion of football, on both sides of the border. In any event, you can't simply convert one game or the other to 3 or 4 down games - they are different games - the NFL field is too small for a 3 down game, the CFL vice versa. It's the way they treat all their vets, especially of late. If it had translated to success on the field I wouldn't be complaining. But last year was $&!#. Hopefully this year will be different. otherwise
Wow Crazy how the riders signed Glenn in the off season. This guy continues to be a starter while he is supposed to be a back up. lol I know, also crazy is how Glenn played for the Riders like 15 years ago. Which is about 2 QBs before Durant who has been a Rider for 10 years. I feel really bad for Durant though his arm looked really good on throws he did get in before he got hurt. As for US expansion. It was done and it failed miserably. 4 downs wouldn't change that fact. Also too many changes would have to be made to the CFL game to accommodate American fields. Again, those changes would violate the CFL Charter.
thejazz97
Welp. Just found out about Durant's injury. Unless Glenn can pull off a miracle, SK's season is hooped! Edited June 28, 2015 by thejazz97
ilduce39
The 3 downs, larger field, extra player... All work to the CFL's advantage. I prefer 4 down ball but if the CFL went that route they would be getting true NFL scraps. Right now they actually get some fantastic, athletic talent that is just a bit too small to play NFL. The proof is in the pudding - several NFL calibre players have a tough time with the transition and simply aren't ready for the speed and level of the CFL game. The result is the CFL is not a step down from NFL practice squad guys in terms of product. It's almost a different sport. I'd also wager almost every import player in the CFL was a star at a major U.S. college.

I wouldn't have signed the guy to be a third string this year. His presence and the obligation to play him was a massive burden last season. I will have some fun watching him on the other side of the field this year.

Brad Marchand
Welp. Just found out about Durant's injury. Unless Glenn can pull off a miracle, SK's season is hooped! Don't hold your breath. Remember seeing him throw a pick in the third quarter and thinking "same old Kevin Glenn". So the list of injured CFL QBs stands at 5. Must be some nasty karma against them or something: Reilly Durant Ray Lefevour Crompton

Brad Marchand
Glad to hear he hasn't missed a beat, LOL! Interestingly enough, Glenn and Durant had the exact same completion rate: 13/18. Difference was Durant threw for 2 TDs and no INTs, while Glenn had the one pick and nothing else to show for it.

He could move the ball, but the offense would die in the red zone or he'd throw a bone headed interception.
