[Proposal] Turning Us From Pretenders to Contenders!

Recommended Posts

To St. Louis:

• A. Edler ($3.25 mill)

• M. Raymond ($2.225 mill)

To Vancouver:

• D. Backes ($4.5 mill)

• B. Jackman ($3.166 mill)

Why does each team do this? Blues are looking for a top dman to play alongside Pietranglo desperately and Edler fits in their description perfectly. Vancouver does it to get a PF better than Doan, younger than him, signed at a much more reasonable price, who will solidify the second line and can mentor Kassian.

Also, this deal makes us a much more better playoff team as Jackman, though overpaid, and is a rigid dman who plays shutdown playoff style hockey. A BC boy, brings in lots of experience at 31 years of age - nothing fancy about him, just gets the job done, can get penalty minutes and pinches in on the scoresheet here and there. Backes is a 50+ point guy, 100+ penalty minutes, and like Jackman, is very rigid and plays a playoff style game. He does have skill though, not a bad thing at all, and he is a workhouse of a player that also gets it done and is a very respected 2 way player, almost Selke worthy.

Backes becomes expendable because the Blues have a log jam of talent waiting to make the lineup. Edler becomes expendable because Ballard can then stepup to play a top 4 role finally and we gain depth on d back by getting Jackman. Raymond is given to fill in a hole on the Blues roster. In all: Edler = Backes & Raymond = Jackman, especially since both teams fill in their needs.

Healthy Roster :

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows

Booth - Kesler - Backes

Hansen - Schroeder - Kassian

Higgins - Lapierre - Malhotra

Volpatti, Pinizzotto..

Hamhuis - Bieksa

Ballard - Garrison

Jackman - Tanev

Alberts, Joslin..

Luongo

Schneider

...this is a team that would be able to go all the way and win it; skill, balance, and rigid gritty playoff players - a mix of everything. One game they can rotate you with skill, another can just get the job done by playing tough and in the dirty areas, or they can do both and simply dominate / this is exactly what a team needs to win the cup nowadays. ...I am now open to feedback and criticism :)
