McEneny will not clear waivers.  He's a young dman with offensive upside, who is not small.

I'm worried about that as well... Depends though, people where saying that about Pedan last year, and then we ended up waiving him the day AFTER most teams made most of their roster moves and cuts, and he still cleared. I realize the difference between him and Pedan is massive though.

It all comes down to that argument of "Well, if we send him down at the same time as all the other teams sending down their fringe, waiver-eligible NHLers, those teams won't have space to bring in another fringe guy" vs. "There are some terrible teams out there, like the Avs and Coyotes, who would doubtless jump on this guy".

So what do you think happens, Alf? Biega waived, Weircioch and McEneny press-boxed until injuries strike? Perhaps Green even uses rotation and will rotate those guys into the lineup even when healthy?

I think you're right.  Biega, and (to a lesser extent) Pedan are expendable.  McEneny has potential to be a top four, with offensive upside.

VGK have far more and 'better' D to waive. I have to think, if we send him down at the same time, he likely clears.

Can't see them keeping him up as 8th. He needs to play.

I don't know about likely JR........I can't imagine 30 teams passing on a 23 year old dman who was heads and tails the best dman on Utica last season, can play pp and pk and has looked rock solid in pre-season.  If he were a cpl years older, maybe, but he's a free prospect ready to break into the NHL for some team of they put him on waivers.  I think they send down Boucher and go with 13 fwds and 8d if that's the case, and then try and make a move at some point.

Oh they're definitely waiving Boucher and going with 8D. I just think it's Wiercioch and Biega as 7 and 8.

Biega is s natural righty, can play forward in a pinch, has a track record at this level and McEneny needs to play more than 8D minutes. Utica also already has a veteran overload.

I think they try to sneak him (and Pedan) down. *crosses fingers, toes and eyes*

It's a tough situation, cuz Weircioch is almost guaranteed the 7th guy, and both Biega and Mac are valuable in their own right... Evan needs playing time, but would hurt more to lose. Glad it's not my problem. Also, Boucher is absolutely expendable at this point. Depth, yes, but not even remotely close to a roster spot compared to Rodin or even Brock

Though I think they'll try and get Boucher through, I don't think anyone is expendable if they hope to be a playoff team.  Losing anyone, at this point will be a negative.  I don't think Boucher makes it through waivers, but I'd obviously rather lose him than McEneny.

I love Biega, but it's a no brainer for me and I think Biega might make it through.  Boucher is probably 50/50

Agreed, you worded that much more effectively than I - that's was what I was trying to get across. It would be nice to have him in Utica, where he's certainly a top-six forward. I want to see a playoff run from the Comets this year, and he'd help get them there.

I'm not even that concerned about losing Biega.

It's more that he far better suits an 8D role here than McEneny does. McEneny needs to play, not sit in a press box. He's also not a natural righty, he has no track record at this level and as far as I know has never filled in at forward, certainly not in the NHL.

Biega is a far better fit for the role.

Now how confident do they feel in getting McEneny down is another question.

Has Biega been in a preseason game yet?

Colorado only has 4 D right now... so they are going to pick off any good waiver prospects on D from us and Vegas. At 675k I would think Sakic grabs this kid up if he's made available.

Looks like the Canucks are going to try and sneak Evan McEney through waivers today. Smart move. It's early and teams are still figuring out their lineups, probably the best chance to get him to Utica.

That said, I'll wait and see if he gets claimed or not. Though, with this timing, there's a chance he doesn't get claimed.

Guess we're about to find out.  Its going to be a big blow if he gets poached in the next 24 hrs

The kid does need to play though and having him play top minutes in Utica for a second consecutive season is far better than him sitting in the press box and getting playing time if injuries happen.

Besides, didn't he start off poorly last season and then things started to come together about halfway through, where he became the Comets' top defenseman according to Green? Another season down there won't hurt, but again hopefully he doesn't get claimed. Personally, I don't think he's done enough at the professional level to be claimed, but he does have that puck moving skillset, size, and is young.
