SFU yet again proves it is a joke

What a joke.

I had one class today, the other was cancelled, and only half the students actually showed up.

I've had profs and TA's e-mail saying not to go up at all, even if classes aren't officially cancelled.

Why are we paying thousands of $ per year to go here again?

UPDATE: TSSU Members Vote In Favour of Strike (NOT MY VOTE)

Here is the e-mail I have received from Connor Moffat early this afternoon.

Over 1000 members participated in our vote to escalate job action to

picket lines and gave us a strong and resounding double-majority YES.

As a result, TSSU has commenced picket line action. In conjunction

with CUPE 3338, picket lines will be up at SFU's downtown campuses

from 8:30am to 8:30pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Any members available to picket should call our picket line at

604-808-5398 to arrange for a shift. Since this is now our picket

line, duties performed at this picket line will count towards hours

for strike pay, even if members are not missing instructional hours.

As per the strike policy, members who cross this picket line to

perform TSSU work duties will be subject to fines and forfeiture of

wages.

A full withdrawal of services by both CUPE 3338 and TSSU will occur at

all of SFU's campuses on Wednesday November 7. Members need to

continue to watch their emails for updates on the precise details of

picket lines for next week.

The dedication and solidarity of our members on CUPE's picket lines on

Thursday and Friday has forced SFU to agree to mediation with us. Your

Contract Committee is currently at the mediation with the employer

only because of the dedication of the members who refused to cross

CUPE's picket lines, resulting in the cancellation of hundreds of

classes. We need our members to continue to put the pressure on SFU by

being on the picket line so we can get to an agreement as

expeditiously as possible.

Sent on behalf of the Strike & Contract Committees.

You know what's a joke? Trying to get a diploma or degree in Networking while I am forced to take: a business class, two programming courses, a history course, 6 math courses, and another computer course. ALL of which have nothing to do with furthering my understanding of networking. I've spent more time on this crap than I have actually put towards learning what I actually want to. Granted, I did enjoy the server and history classes, but I would have preferred not to and just spent my time doing what I want.

UFV needs to get their crap together. BCIT kids don't have to do any of this garbage; they're leaving us @ UFV in the dust.

I'd already be eligible for my diploma if it wasn't for having to upgrade math.
