aeromotacanucks
Yeah, French really isn't a common first language in Vancouver, You're much more likely to hear Punjabi, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

theminister
Making me feel older than I even am. Thanks CDC. Keepin' it real. no problem dude it´s just to tell people that "Latino" is too general. the terminology "Latino" came from "the one who speaks Latin", however, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese (European and Brazilian) came from Latin. this is why a French learn Spanish much faster than a British. the language origin is the same... aeromotacanucks
sort of. but here "Mestiço" is a general description because every Brazilian is a mixture of races(Basically is a mixture of immigrants with the native indians), there´s no "pure" brazilian anymore. for us "Latino" is a nasty adjective given by USA meaning "Illegal maxican/cuban immigrant who speaks spanish". althout portuguese is very similar to spanish the fact we understand spanish doesn´t mean that it´s the same language. the "Ç" letter is the example. only portuguese keyboards have this letter... for example, the city "Foz do Iguaçu", but in English atlas is refered as "Foz do Iguassu"... an many other examples. in portuguese the same word has a gender, for example the word "thanks" in portuguese is said in 2 versions, one in male gender and other in female gender... people here refer them/our selves as "South Americans" or "Mercosul Citizens" (our commercial partnership). because fits better with our cultures... "Mercosul" is also present on the Brazilian Passport, because it means that we don´t need any VISA to go around South and Central America (including Cuba), Portugal ("Same Laws" agreement), Europe (for Tourism), Africa and Middle East. in fact we just need our ID to go to many countries like Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Venezuela. also our Drive license is valid worldwide since has a photo and basic information it can be used as an ID
