Star Trek: Into Darkness 3D- 9.5/10

This movie was so awesome! The 3D effects were fantastic, I was closing on many occasions as it looked things were actually flying out at me. The action was well paced and it looked great. The movie really didn't have any boring parts, except I did think it was maybe 5-10 minutes too long. Alice Eve is really hot and adds +1 on her own. Khan was pretty badass, I also enjoyed Kirk and Spock. Just a great movie to watch, I'm not even that into Star Trek but I enjoy these movies. Into Darkness was so much better than the first one.

6.5? come on, i thought it was a really enjoyable little movie. one of my favourites of last year. way better than almost every rom com i've seen

To me, a 6-7 is indicative of a nice, above average movie.

Feel no need to rate on a sliding scale just because other rom-coms are loathsome.

Watching Enemy (2014) starring Jake Gyllenhaal tonight. Reviews elsewhere seem pretty lukewarm, has anyone here watched it?

Gyllenhaal has a wierd career. i like a couple of his movies, but why is he just in all of these totally middle-of-the-road suspense movies now? i'm sure it'll be fine. not good, not bad, just another jake gyllenhaal movie

There's a pretty informative YouTube clip explaining the film's meaning. Lots of metaphors and symbolism that you have to catch otherwise the film leaves you saying "wtf"?

He seems to always play the same character now, although I think the quality of the suspense movies are quite variable (Zodiac is a masterpiece imo). Anyway, people online seem to be comparing this weird ass movie I just watched to Only God Forgives or something with Ryan Gosling in terms of seemingly artistic confusion

it was an acid trip, I am still trying to make sense of it. Can't rate it yet but I will say that the cinematography and overall mood was palpably grimy and dark (if that is your thing). All shots seem to have at least half the screen obscured in the dark, playing off the shadows of the angles on the actors and set. They also shot the movie in some weird yellowish grey filter, it all added to something that I can only describe as looking into a Prozac bottle with a microscope.

Very little dialogue, not much of anything but Gyllenhaal really. And I can't even comment on that without trying to first figure out what the hell I just watched lol

what did you make of the movie?

plus, is it this video you were referring to?

Stuckmann has some pretty good reviews. Probably it

Transcendence was kinda boring and it really solidified Johnny Depp as a total non-actor unless he puts on a ton of makeup.

Guy doesn't even try. So overrated.

5/10

Ed Wood and What's Eating Gilbert Grape? Okay then...

Yea. Wasn't sure what to make of it especially after that last shot that was completely unexpected and random to a degree. I somewhat got the significance of the spider throughout the film, but couldn't quite piece it all together. That youtube video gave me a newfound appreciation for the film that I otherwise wouldn't have had.

I saw Enemy about a month ago too. Definitely is a movie that I didn't just forget about after watching. In fact I read/watched several reviews, including the one above. I still am not sure what to think about it.

It reminded me of an old episode of the Twilight Zone that starred Bruce Willis in one of his first acting roles.

folks , i just watched my favourite movie so far this year .. Its called Chef .. John favreau plays a chef who has lost his way in his personal life and in the kitchen ..

It was funny , touching and uplifting .. The theatre actually erupted in applause when it was over .. What an absolute treat it was .. so glad I saw that instead of 22 jump street .. I highly recommend this one .. and its one you can take your girl to ,, you will both have a great time

CHEF 9 / 10

Lmao

Rewatching Drive tonight. Excited because first time was ruined by hecklers whining about how it isn't Fast and Furious 12.

I spent almost the entire time while watching fast and the furious 5 heckling the existence of the movie. (that entry specifically)

I do appreciate it for what it is, to be honest. Just a silly action film.

With that said, I want to retract what I said about The Raid: Redemption a couple months ago.

Going to watch The Grand Budapest Hotel tonight. Not sure how excited to get for this one. After hearing all the glowing reviews for Moonrise Kingdom, I couldn't have been more underwhelmed. So I'm hoping for the best.
