How to Train Your Dragon 2 - 7/10

I think I'm just an old fart. I'm starting to feel the same way towards cartoon films as I am towards superhero films. I've seen them all and nothing is new.

It was enjoyable and really well done. But I know I'll completely forget that I watched it in a month.

Big 7/10: cute movie

Clear History: 6.5/10: decent enough HBO movie by Larry David, whole host of HBO stars on this one. pretty, pretty, pretty good for those who like Curb Your Enthusiasm humour, but its nothing remarkable, or anything I'd recommend to a non CYE fan

Raid 2 - 8.5/10

For a moment, I thought it wouldn't live up to the original, but the last half hour was insane. One of the best fighting scenes I've ever seen

Snowpiercer - 8/10

The blend of sci-fi action with artistic imagery was a great combination along with an intriguing plot

Robocop - 5/10

A lot better than I thought it would be but was very dull and not a lot of enjoyable characters

The last 2 fight scenes in The Raid 2 are probably going to go down as my favorite movie moments of 2014. Fucking incredible.

On the other hand, Snowpiercer is probably going to go down as my year's biggest disappointment. I'd been following it for over a year, and had heard nothing but great things, and then it was just kinda mediocre. The tunnel fight scene was very cool, but other than that it really did nothing for me.

The Art of the Steal - 6/10

Documentary about Albert Barnes' collection of art in Philadelphia, which is estimated to be worth over $25 billion.

The first hour of the film was incredibly interesting. Not only finding out about Barnes as a person, how he made his fortune, and his absolute love for art, but also hearing people discuss how this collection is almost impossible to value.

It really was quite incredible for those even moderately interested in art to find out how people view Barnes' collection of Matisse, Renoir, Picasso, and Cezannes' vs. Museums who carry different art from those painters worldwide. You find out just how more priceless those artists works are (one in Barnes' collection thought to be worth $500+ million if sold).

However, the last 40 minutes of the film is really quite difficult to get through. At a certain point, and it won't take long, you find out this documentary is incredibly one-sided. While it does bring up an incredibly important point about following someone's Will, and politicians being able to do what they want in the States when money is involved (an art collection believed to be worth well over $25 billion); the film doesn't shed light very well on the other side of the argument. Not only that, but even touch much on Barnes as a person, except for one quick line of "He could certainly hold grudges," in reference to The Philadelphia Museum.

In the end, as much as I believe that someone's Will should be followed as closely as possible, which Barnes' was for nearly 40 years after his death; I just came out of it thinking, "Frack these art snobs! Just let people be able to see these works of art that these artists would have loved for the world to enjoy."

It's interesting for the first hour, then progressively gets worse; especially the last 20 minutes when you got footage of people picketting.

Transformers Age of Extention.

I'm giving it a 8 out of 10.

Personally I think the 1st is the best. It's something brand new to all of us.

the next one sucked, number 3 was good.

Number 4 was the best in my mind. It's much more dramtic, sure people are complaining about the plot, the element is much different then the previous 2.

If you enjoyed previous transformers, go for it! worth the money.

If not, don't bother please.

thank you

Transformers: Age of Extinction- 8/10

Awesome Transformers movie, the 3D was really good in this one better than the 3D in Dark of the Moon. There was a lull period in the middle of the movie, it could've easily been 20-25 min shorter. I got exactly what I wanted with this movie a very sexy girl (Nicola Peltz aka Bradley from Bates Motel), Mark Whalberg being a badass, funny moments, asshole humans, Optimus Prime tearing it up, Bumblebee being awedome, and over the top explosions with fantastic battles. This is my second favourite Transformers movie, right behind the first one.

Girl Most Likely - 5/10

Kristen Wiig stars as Imogene, a woman living in New York who's personal and professional life takes a beating within days of each other.

Attempting to fake a suicide in order to get her boyfriend back, she accidentally takes too many pills and nearly succeeds. The hospital releases her to her mother's care, Annette Benning, for the required 72 hour watch period she needs, as the hospital is overcrowded. Apparently not a great idea as Benning has been a terrible mother. Not mean, just aloof more then anything.

Long story short, she goes to New Jersey to stay with her mom and brother. She gains confidence, blah, blah, blah, happily ever after. The only standout in the film would be Christopher Fitzgerald, who played Wiig's brother.

There are some funny bits, but all in all, nothing new here.

Chinese Zodiac - 3/10

This movie... I don't even... Ugh.....

Was just hoping for another decent Jackie Chan Movie. Not even a great one, just something even resembling the more mediocre of his work from the 80's-90's would have been acceptable.

I think some of it was lost in translation, with a dub, and likely further editing that came with the North American localization. But even then, the movie is so obviously broken at its core, that I don't know what exactly was supposed to save it. It spends so much time jumping from place to place, that I watched the entire movie without picking up who certain people were, where they were, or what they were doing there. And I had to re-ask these questions every half minute.

The whole thing was just childish. Not in any endearing, cute way, just that it was all so immature. And pointless. It was clearly a propaganda PSA piece about acknowledged and respecting Chinese history, but it's not as if that helps the movie's case.

The last action scene at the bosses lair had some classic Jackie action, but even that was missing for much of the film. Action was present, but not in that classic Buster Keaton-esque silent film way that is present in his more well known movies abroad, but rather this cheap, corny style of Chinese comedy, that's more loud and stupid than it is thoughtful.

Always in the mood for that kind of stuff, and I am curious but I'd like a little more detail about this. Have you seen Baraka as well? How would you compare the two?

yeah I've seen Baraka. It's by the same dude, so it's sorta the same thing. There may be more 'thematic' differences, but I haven't seen Baraka for a few years, so I can't really comment
