g_bassi13
Neighbors - 7.5/10 I laughed. A lot. Was good. It really tailed off after the whole second strike though, both in terms of the humour, and its basic coherence as a story. At that point you're along for the ride anyways, but they could have done better.
Monty
^^^ In regards to Neighbors, wife and I haven't seen it yet. However, this is the one time I have heard her complain about the possibility of an on-screen couple ending up together. While it is true that, when it comes to looks, men typically marry someone who is better looking than they deserve, as stereotypcially women care less about looks than men do; she absolutely refuses to believe for a second that Rose Byrne would end up with anyone that doesn't look like a Greek God. Byrne is absolutely stunning. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fast and Furious 6 - 2/10 I don't even know where to begin with this. Wife and I watched it yesterday as it was on tv. Should note that we haven't seen any of them since the first movie, and neither of us remember anything about that one. But this was complete dog sh*t. While there are loads of things to make fun of in this "film", that last 20 minute action scene at the end had me scratching my head, rolling my eyes, and groaning all at the same time. Aside from how absolutely ludicrous the movie is, are we to believe that the runway that the plane is taking off at is 30 miles long? It's bananas. Oh yeah, and that tank scene where Vin Diesel (still can't believe that last name) grabs Michelle Rodriguez mid air, lands on a car windshield, and doesn't die is probably the funniest scene in the whole movie. Well, either that or when Diesel and The Rock stare at each other in the plane near the end, looking like they want to bone each other. GLASSJAW
Mean Girls: 5/10 Some very funny moments, no doubt. But the movie is affirmation masquerading as resistance. Any movie that makes that many jokes about fat people and losers, while showing so many scenes of Lohans tits jiggling and fetishizing "teen girls" can't SERIOUSLY make up for it with 30 seconds of "we all learned out lesson in the end!" THERETOOL
Just tried watching American Hustle with my wife and we both stopped it 20 minutes in. We thought it was awful. We were bored with the story and did not like any of the characters. Thought Christian Bale's character was the worst. 1/10 I respectfully disagree . I thought it was a fantastic movie . For me it was an 8 outta 10 easy
Monty
The Machine - 7.5/10 Currently on US Netflix (or itunes), "The Machine" is a British sci-fi film about the not to distant future where there is a Cold War with China, so the Ministry of Defense has scientists work on cybernetic implants for soldiers who have received brain damage, as well as loss of limbs. From the initial previews I watched, I thought this was just going to be a lame sci-fi about a female robot who causes all sorts of trouble becuase, you know, she's a robot. Now while the last 20 minutes or so does have robot smash, a large portion of the film is the relationship that the main scientist develops throughout with the A.I. There are a few plot holes or places they completely jumped the shark with. Otherwise, this is a really good sci-fi film with terrific SFX. Also, the music is very 70s/80s sci-fi movie music, which fits in incredibly well. Definitely worth watching, if you're a sci-fi fan. EDIT: Just read that the budget on the film was less than $1 million pounds. Unreal. Edited September 5, 2014 by Monty

THERETOOL
Draft Day starring kevin ' if you build it they will come ' costner At the NFL Draft, general manager Sonny Weaver has the opportunity to rebuild his team when he trades for the number one pick. He must decide what he's willing to sacrifice on a life-changing day for a few hundred young men with NFL dreams. I loved it . I was cheering half way through . Might be a little cliche and hollwood but if your an N.F.L fan , Hell , if your a sports fan , you'll like this . I give it a 7.5 out of

Mean Girls to me is like a crapty soundtrack album that has one or two absolutely great tracks. It's endlessly quotable because of a handful of isolated scenes, but as a whole it definitely does seem like affirmation masquerading as resistance. I watched it as I was about to enter high school and it made the concept of teenage years seem even more terrible than it already was. Tina Fey could have stuck to making one great SNL skit out of the idea, instead of trying to knit some meaning into a montage of crude jokes. Edit: All this ISIS news binging has me craving good war movies set in the Middle East. I've already watched Generation Kill, Zero Dark Thirty, Jarhead and The Hurt Locker. What am I missing? Not set in the 21st century, but maybe Three Kings? I've heard decent things about Lone Survivor, too. Not going to lie, I didn't like The Hurt Locker. Maybe it was because I wasn't expecting a drama, to be honest. Got to give it another shot. Edited September 7, 2014 by Spoderman

Mr. Ambien
Kinda late on this one, but.. Guardians of the Galaxy -- 8/10 Decent plot, better graphics. Typical ending leading into another film. Usually I can tell what CGI/animated characters are played by who, but Cooper and Diesel didn't really sound like themselves at all. I lol'd when I saw the blue Mr. Svenning from Mallrats (saw right through that costume). I instantly thought Star-Lord should have stink palmed him. They got Vin Diesel because he was the Iron Giant. They largely crafted that role with that in mind. Though I get what you mean.

Not going to lie, I didn't like The Hurt Locker. Maybe it was because I wasn't expecting a drama, to be honest. Got to give it another shot. I actually watched Jarhead a few weeks before The Hurt Locker was released. Similar to Hurt Locker, that movie suffered from being mismarketed as a rollicking action epic from the trailers so I was very underwhelmed after the first watch. Second time through, I appreciated it a lot more for the character drama it was so I felt prepared for the Hurt Locker. The nature of the current conflicts in the Middle East makes it difficult to have a conventional war film, you just know that the action is going to be peripheral at best. Kingdom of Heaven: Director's Cut I've just read up reviews comparing the theatrical version to the director's cut, interesting how the consensus is that the director's cut is a masterpiece on its own while the former is a genuinely crapty movie. Can an extra forty minutes make that large a difference when the foundation is the same? I'll check it out. Last night I watched Captain America: Winter Soldier with low expectations seeing as I did not enjoy the Avengers or the first film. I did not expect much at all yet I still ended up dozing off with about 30 minutes to go. The first 30 minutes gave the impression this film might actually rival Iron Man but it slowly devolved into a campy cesspool. The action and soundtrack were well done but it wasn't enough to save this mess for me as even then, the plot felt like a revision of the Avengers. 5/10, with a +/- 0.5 to adjust for the probable shitty mood I was in. I enjoyed the theatrical and the Directors Cut even more. Great cast (Orlando Bloom may be the weakest character of the bunch), some strong Arabic characters (Saladin and the doctor from Star trek deep space nine). In my opinion, Edward Norton's best character in years. Great soundtrack and visuals. Solid pic.

Hugor Hill
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014): Noticed all the raving reviews, so I decided to check it out. Loads of entertainment value in this flick. Almost all of the jokes landed nicely, lots of fun action, a great soundtrack, and some very good special effects. Many have told me about some similarities to Star Wars and they aren’t too far off. This can be viewed as a space opera, but I’d file it under superhero popcorn. The villain kind of “meh”, to be quite honest. Overall, it’s a sci-fi comic book film with a pretty good amount of laughs. It might just be the best Marvel film to date. A 9/10 Side Note: I’m surprised that this film got away with a PG-13 rating with all the curse words thrown around. Not that I have a problem with swearing, I’m just shocked that the MPAA let it slide. Major studio flick, not surprised one bit. Foreign art house with a pair of boobs would get R.
