Agreed. He got on my nerves after a while.

The Rifftrax commentary over this movie is one of their more natural and funny ones, but this movie doesn't need any help. It speaks entirely for itself.

I never liked him in the first place, to be honest. The fake angry yelling humour never appealed to me

I never got that vibe. Ever since AVGN randomly stopped making videos I've liked NC even more

As I stated before, I don't like that "fake angry yelling" humour. Feels way too forced.

That's one big thing, but what I hated most is that he stopped focussing on even trying to be funny, and went through this phase where he interjected everything with what he felt was a poignant analysis. It's like, I don't need to know what you really felt about the emotional impact of Power Rangers 5 guy.

i only have an extremely vague understanding of that nostalgia critic guy, but watching him talk about American Beauty just now was sorta embarrassing. i hate to be one of Those People, but i honestly don't even think he "gets it"

and when he talks about the "recent critical backlash" of the movie, what is he even talking about? is he trying to justify his own re-evaluation? because i don't think there's been much discussion about the movie lately. and frankly, i think he totally misunderstands (or isn't familiar with) the general critical consensus of the film: it's equal parts drama AND SATIRE

p.s., i love american beauty

You HAVE to see it. It's the most glorious thing you will ever see.

lol I decided to take your advice, started dl'ing it before bed last night, put it on for a laugh with my coffee this morning. Got like a third of the way through then realized I did watch this back when it came out.

Still good for the laugh though. What a trainwreck of a movie.

I just watched it to see what you were talking about. I don't personally appreciate the movie all too much, but I agree with the notion that he doesn't understand it.

He spends most of time not successfully being subtle about taking jabs at the movie. Belittles the whole thing step by step without looking at why it works on the whole as a commentary.

He always looks at what he himself has enjoyed in the past, and then decides, x is not enough like y, therefore x did things wrong.

This is what I was talking about though. Seems he's completely dropped the notion of comedy and jumped straight into the realm of serious reviews. Someone should have told him he's not exactly a good critic before his ego ballooned like it has. Was a painful video to watch.

Before Sunrise

hard to rate it objectively after seeing the sequels first, 8 I'd say. (probably 8.5 for Sunset and 9 for Midnight - definitely think they get progressively better).

a lot of the dialogue was too wide-eyed juvenile to me, but of course I realize that's the point

I swear Ethan Hawke was high as a kite in some of the scenes, like when they walk around the carnival, his pupils were pooping out of his head

edit - that typo is too funny to fix

that's actually one thing i really liked about the series.

i can't think of many sequels that actually factor in the imaginary/presumed character growth/changes between movies like that, especially when you consider the depth of the emotions and "intellect" of the characters. the nuances are the same, but different. especially hawke's character. a lot of maturation between the first and second movie, i think

Rush - 8.5/10

Was a great movie to just sit down and watch. I'd say it's the best racing movie I've ever seen, but I don't know that there's any great ones to compare it to in the first place.

Unlike a lot of "Based on a true story" films out there, I'd say this is possibly the least forced of them. I'm sure they bullted there way through some events and all, but it's a case where it's irrelevant just how true each relationship and emotion was. They built themselves a great narrative that slots in nicely to the way things played out, and it was rightly intense. The contrast between the two racers that they intended worked brilliantly, straight to the ending. They had them say and do all the right things. That all felt natural, and that they properly captured a lot of the adrenaline of F1 racing on the screen helped push the moments off the track.

This movie was the shiz.

Rambo First Blood - 6.5/10

First time I've seen it. Aside from the brutal editing (Hope signs everywhere, yet takes place in the US) and the police taking an interest with a guy just walking down the road, it's a pretty decent flick. The monologue at the end was actually pretty heartbreaking.

Rambo First Blood 2 - 3/10

Really quite ridiculous. I would never watch it again.

I don't know if its some kind of genetic abnormality or whatever, my pupils always do this. They are extremely sensitive to light. If they are really big, all I have to do is shut my eyes really hard, open them again, and you can actually watch the pupils grow. When I was younger, people thought I was concussed. When I was older, people thought I was high. Could be same deal with Ethan Hawke.
