It was exceeding my expectations. But the 2nd half - which was supposedly the focal point of the movie - felt pretty empty. I'm a fan of the books, they were all quite good IMO but I remember seeing the trailer for the movie and thinking, 'that doesn't look right', 'that REALLY doesn't look right'. Shame, sounds like Burton ruined what could have been a very good series of movies. Maybe the studio will reboot with someone able to more closely capture the feel of the books. But have to say, we both enjoyed this more than any of the Harry Potter films. Well that's good news at least.
250Integra
Watched a few movies on my way to and from Asia: Batman V Superman - 7/10 It was ok. I wasn't a big fan of the story line and the movie seemed rushed overall. The action scenes were a hit and miss, and Christian Bale is a much better Batman than Ben Affleck. Central Intelligence - 8/10 I came in with low expectations for this movie but it was overall hilarious. BFG - 6.5/10 I enjoyed most of the movie until the latter part. I feel it they could have wrote a better script to end the movie without the Royalty part (super cheesy).

It was good. Definitely fits into a film that I would have been raving about in my early 20s because "That's what you do". But at this point, I'm starting to age and movies about a judge, weasels, a rabbit, a talking baby, and a fat detective who misses his brother is all I need to get through the day. So, skip this and watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Re watching WFRR is like shooting at the net, it is usually a good idea, and never the worst. Friends and I still use Roger's " Only when it's funny". That scene was bloody hilarious, and so many others. When is the sequel or re-boot?

According to Zemekis, the screenplay has been finished for quite some time, and he's pumped for it. Apparently the roadblock for getting it green lit is Disney. Here's the quote below by Zemekis himself: Quote “the current corporate Disney culture has no interest in Roger, and they certainly don’t like Jessica at all.” This was only made a day ago in his press tour for "Allied". Doesn't look like it will be made soon. That said, Hollywood really loves sequels and reboots.

Not sure how they replace Eddie Valiant( Bob Hoskins) but I think it would make a fair chunk of money. Edited November 29, 2016 by gurn

That would be my guess. But she's not bad, she's just drawn that way. Zemekis said that Bob Hoskins' character would be brought back in "ghost form". Considering Zemekis is a magician with the camera, I'm sure this would be tastefully done.
aGENT
I'd watch the #$@% out of a Roger sequel. Doesn't Disney own a more mature studio appendage that could produce it? It'd make nothing but money, you'd think they'd be all over it. Edited November 30, 2016 by J.R.

Beluga Whale
Arrival - 9/10. Amazing movie. One of those ones that you keep thinking about the next day. This and Sicario make me very optimistic for the new Blade Runner. Spoilery thoughts: Spoiler That twist was great and everything coming together near the end there was very well done. I though the pacing and development throughout were on point and kept me interested for the entire movie. Surprisingly emotional for what I was expecting too. Obviously the stuff with the daughter but also when you realize at the end that it's Jeremy Renner's character who was the father who got extremely upset when Louise told him she knew their daughter was going to die young. That was a powerful revelation. Also "Abbot is death process". Idk why but that made me really sad. I also liked the more sciencey concepts they dealt with and the way they explored them. Way less ridiculous than Interstellar. Also visually beautiful with a great soundtrack.

The Bookie
Imperium 6/10 Daniel Radcliffe as an FBI agent going undercover with white nationalists. He was actually very very good and the two main supporting actors were decent, but everyone else was sub par and it kinda dragged every scene down into mediocrity. I would much prefer to see something like this as an HBO series since it was the smaller details, the coded language and recruitment methods etc. that were more interesting than the stereotypical action/thriller main plot. g_bassi13
Cutthroat Island - 3/10 I was curious about this movie, because I've simultaneously heard a lot about this movie, while at the same time heard absolutely nothing about it. As in, it's famous for being some movie that bombed at the box office, but I don't think I learned a single thing about any element of the movie besides it having pirates. So I watched it. And now I completely understand why no one ever talks about anything when it comes to this movie. It's so god damn bland. It is the embodiment of nothingness. There's little plot, little motivation, and no heart. No one on screen is given anything to work with, and no one seems to care. There's usually something to take home with a bad movie, whether it's a genuine silver lining, or something so over the top bad that it's interesting. There is not with this one. It almost feels like you have to try that hard to be absent from public consciousness, after spending $100 million on something like this, while lingering for 20 years on home video around the world, playing on TVs and what have you. It wraps back around and becomes fascinating. I don't really hate the movie. I think I might low-key love it.

I liked it, because it did reflect the paranoia of the times (Much like now). It sort of sputtered when it mattered. It went from being tense, to resolved way too quickly. The feeling of dread should have been played up a bit more in East Berlin. Maybe involving more spies watching him, more encounters with folks checking up on him. It didn't have the cat and mouse feel that say Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy (2011) had. Maybe because Gary Oldman and the rest of cast was just stellar. Green Building
You know how there are those movies that you never really got around to seeing? Despite the success of the film, whether it be cult popularity later or a more general ongoing acceptance, it managed to elude you? For whatever reason I'm like that with Swingers. I finally decide to set time aside to watch it, but then somehow on Youtube Dinner For Five shows up on the queue. For anyone who hasn't heard of it, and I bet most of you have, Jon Favreau host 4 guests at restaurants, mostly around California, but they travel around and even shot one in Vancouver. They attempt a casual story telling atmosphere while eating and drinking. The makeup of the group is mixed up of varying degrees of stardom aged young and old. The topics vary but they are all centered around the film industry. Intrigued after 1 episode (I now know it was one of the better ones) I found myself watching the first 3 seasons. Aside from some of the obvious ego stroking and name dropping that goes on when 5 Hollywood types meet around a table at dinner time, something that likely happens regardless of cameras being present, there were some pretty interesting little stories coming out from some of those special guests. Anyone who has seen the show probably knows where I'm going next: Favreau, while fairly well spoken, is an annoyingly shameless self promoter on the show. To criticize someone from Hollywood of that is really saying something. His head almost looks like it swells during every episode Now all I can think about is kicking the movie Swingers in the nuts. I honestly only remember 2-3 episodes where he didn't mention it either as a focal point, or as a completely unnecessary segue. Kevin Smith hosts one episode in season 4 and he even makes a joke about it. Some of the continuity bloopers are pretty funny. One scene they'll be finishing up a course only to have it brought out to them again 7 seconds later. Comedian Faizon Love had me cracking up over his stories about Torque. Now there's a man who doesn't give a &^@# about burning bridges or what anybody thinks. Burt Reynolds, Carrie Fisher, Dennis Farina (I completely forgot he was a Chicago cop before acting), Dom DeLuise, and any producer who shared stories of how difficult it is behind the scenes of a movie are all notable highlights. Aside from Favreau breaking up the monotony of upselling his single episode one-offs on Seinfeld, Friends, and The Sopranos, numerous times by mentioning Rudy, and Rocky Marciano a lot more than you might like the series is very watchable. I doubt I'll ever watch Swingers. Edited December 1, 2016 by Green Building
