@Green Building, I'm actually really curious how well Swingers would stand up. Has anyone re-watched it recently?

I have a feeling it might make me want to punch my TV

That's pretty much how I felt watching Favreau pump his own tires every episode. It's only a little odd to not be watching a movie based on how much someone annoyed me while speaking to his peers.

The last movie I watched was Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them.  Being a Harry Potter fan I enjoyed the movie but I felt it was kinda slow to start with and in parts it annoyed me a little bit.  It was entertaining overall and I'd recommend any HP fan to check it out.

Kon Tiki 7.5/10

Fun in an old school explorer-adventurer way. A true story I vaguely knew about without details. In the 1940s, a Norwegian anthropologist studying Polynesians developed a theory that they descended from Peruvians using ocean currents like a highway. When he was laughed out of every publishing house, he and 5 friends put together a raft out of the same materials and recreated the journey.

Apparently this was filmed in both Norwegian and English, so in retrospect I kinda regret watching the English. There's something about the Anglo-Scandinavian accent that makes it hard to take dramatic scenes seriously. Otherwise, it had that full sweeping suck you in adventure vibe to it, albeit a little over emotional at times.

They filmed on the original journey and it won the oscar for best documentary in 1951, so I'm gonna see about tracking that down.

Kubo and the two strings: interesting (but somewhat depressing) movie with a very cool combination of stop motion and 3D animation. I felt it was a more adult movie overall than not, and it struck home if anyone has had a relative with dementia. I'd give it 8/10, definitely a memorable and enjoyable movie (it had its light hearted parts too!)

Finding Dory: mostly riding on Finding Nemo's coattails. The 3D animation and production value were pretty good still though, and the story was serviceable. Not a great type of this movie I've seen in recent history, but I'd toss it a 6.5/10. Worth watching and it's shorter time-wise.

The Accountant - 5/10

Gotta say, I enjoyed good chunks of this movie. More importantly, I think I've found out just where Affleck's strengths are in films. In films where he doesn't talk a lot. I know that sounds like a dig, but he has a very expressive face, so this was a good role for him.

However, two areas really brought it down. Anna Kendrick's role was meaningless, and the guy that played Shane in The Walking Dead, though a very interesting character and had chemistry with Affleck, was introduced poorly.

Dr. Strange: 6.5/10

Surprisingly, I thought Eggs Benedict was little off on this one. Normally, I find him to be the star in whatever film he is in. I think the writing of his lines was very off on this one, as there was too much flip flopping between shock and mind boggling to the revelations he was witnessing, and then appearing very familiar with the situations unfolding before him. There was also some things that needed explanations for how what had unfolded was possible. To often, I found myself going, "wait...huh..how did he do that? How is that possible?" And the explanation was in the form of ancient Celtic chanting and cursed symbols.

It looks pretty obvious that they will do a sequel. Which I don't think is a bad thing. I think they have a chance to make this a potentially good franchise if they tie loose ends and get some better writers. Otherwise there won't be a trilogy.

Here's my Christmas time films that are on the agenda for this year:

- Harry Potter 1-8 (wife and I feel they are good holiday films to watch, don't know why)

- Lord of the Rings (since the last one was released in 2003, my wife and I watch them every year around Christmas). So bascially, we've seen them all a minimum of 12 times)

- Christmas Vacation (Chevy Chase, what else)

- The Nightmare Before Christmas (wife thinks this is a Halloween film, I think it's a Christmas film, so I'm watching it)

- Krampus (new entry from last year, love it)

Thanks - had this one on my list for a while now, and almost forgot about it. Looks good.
