Toni Zamboni
The Grinch who stole Christmas (animated original) 10/10 - such a classic, i have to watch it every year. keanu - 5/10 - def disappointed, cause im a big Key and Peele fan.....too much story and not enough good writing of jokes. if yer into docs like me, i watched a great one on CraveTV about the making of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" album....i always find these ones very interesting......this one gives a lot of insight into the bands relationship with Sid and each other. g_bassi13
Star Wars Rouge One - 5/10 Very generic and passionless. Seems like Disney just copied and pasted the Marvel formula and put a star wars coat of paint over it. The characters were quite poor. One exception, really the only one I can think of, was the female lead Gin ("Jyn", according to google), who was built up pretty well for what the movie had going for it. Basic motivation, and decent character progression. They had their bases covered with her. On the other hand, Kassian is maybe one of the worst on screen characters I've ever seen. Horribly written, and possibly even worse casted. It was like if someone tried to rip off Han Solo, but had zero idea how to translate that charisma. He was a charisma vacuum. I think this is the second Star Wars movie of two now that couldn't make its male lead interesting, but this guy blows Finn out of the water when it comes to his level of nothingness. I'm heavily biased against prequels in general, and while this was superior to that horrible Lucas trilogy from a decade or so ago in every perceivable metric, it was still utterly pointless. Part of it had the feeling that concurrent spin-offs do, where they have an inferiority complex and have to wave a giant flag saying, "Hey while that awesome thing you liked was going on, here was this other cool story!". Because it's never a cool story. This was not a cool story. I don't want to sound like I was hating too much on the movie, because it was competent. It even picked up a bit towards the end, but it never really progressed past being a cash in with nothing to say, and nothing to add. I could have more to say about the movie, but all I'll do is just reiterate just how awful Kassian was. God he sucked, lol.

Down by the River
Is Rogue One's office title really 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'? Five Star Wars films have been made since the 80s and all of them have simply ridden the coattails of 1977-1983. Like, you have to seriously lack confidence in your film if you have to keep reminding people 'Star Wars'. Anyway, I'm going to see it tomorrow. His kids are robots (not literally) but he acts as if he's raising a bunch of free thinkers that are fighting against the system. In reality, he's created a family cult where kids that challenge his beliefs get shamed and embarrassed by him when they question his philosophies. If the director was hoping that the lead was supposed to come across as a really good dad: 3/10 If the director was hoping that the viewer would have conflicted feelings about the dad: 6/10 I thought the director wanted the audience to form their own opinion about the dad. There is a scene where he asks his daughter about a book she is reading and the protagonist is someone you empathize with and hate at the same time. I thought the director might be leaning towards this perspective of the father, but difficult to tell, IMO. Which scene was that? When the River Phoenix look alike questioned him about Noam Chomsky day and wondered why they don't celebrate Christmas like normal people? And it's Captain Fantastic, not Mr.
