Hairy Kneel
Watching war movies right now. Band of Brothers has been my favorite find over the holidays. The cast is quite stellar.

Beluga Whale
Rogue One was really disappointing. The first 2/3s were useless but it was saved a bit by a good finish. I really wish they weren't doing these anthologies. Spoiler The CGI characters weren't great. Sure it's amazing how real they can make them look but those scenes just made me uncomfortable. There were too many characters and the leads were pretty uninteresting and poorly developed imo.

Understand the complaint. Spoiler Personally, I thought it was really cool when Tarkin made his appearance, but my dad, who is older and saw A New Hope as a kid, thought it was too weird seeing Peter Cushing on screen again in 2016. I wasn't born yet when he passed away so that awareness wasn't present to me in my childhood unlike my dad or people who were alive and kids at that time. Still easily better than TFA though despite of that imo.

Haven't seen Rogue One yet. Due to the new baby at home, likely won't until it's out of the theatres. That said, this seems to be the overwhelming feeling from all the reviews I've read. "First 3/4 were forgettable, saved by the last bit." Because I hold no love towards Star Wars, I'm sure I'll be indifferent towards it. I don't love the films, but I don't hate them either. Pretty indifferent towards all the movies.

I already know this is one of those films where my rating score slowly drops by 0.1 with each passing day as I dwell on it's maggot pile and the sh1twalls, and how it only moved me once because it was a little too clinical (but that clinical style worked incredibly well), when I should instead be thinking about the overall amazingly well planned out and executed experience ... But at the time of watching it was a 9/10 Also the thing I liked most of all was that it never treated you like an idiot. Maybe, just maybe, the closeup scene of him talking about the injured fawn in the stream ... that approached the outskirts of Cheeseville for a couple minutes, but that was the only time in the entire movie. Great stuff. A slightly shaky 9/10. Love when recommendations in this thread work out.(I was a tiny bit worried going in since I know you like Foxcatcher, the dullest movie on Earth)

All his scenes were just so off-putting. The CGI Leia was even worse but at least that didn't last long. Funny you say that because I really liked TFA despite its flaws and thought it was miles better than this. I thought the characters were just boring and uninteresting in rogue one. By the end I didn't care at all about any of them and all those deaths had zero impact. 7 hours ago, Monty said: Haven't seen Rogue One yet. GLASSJAW
Moonlight: 9/10 can only really think of one or two tiny qualms with this one, to be honest. but its up there with Brokeback Mountain for being the best "struggling with homosexuality" movies. this one is a bit less cinematic (no grand, sweeping vistas), but maybe a bit more personal as well. nuckin_futz
The Nice Guys 4/10 Considering the cast of Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, I was expecting way more. It's pretty highly rated but just did nothing for me. It actually had me watching the clock. Damn

(wear your war-manbun) the other day when I saw La La Land (0/10), there was a pre-trailer preview on the making of XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, and it amped me up so much I had to do some pushups in the aisle feel sorry for the museum nerds in the parking lot, they're gonna get it
Hugor Hill
The Green Mile - 8.5/10 I enjoyed it very much but probably not as much as the general consensus. I get the premise, but was disappointed when a third of the way through he pulls the first miracle. I'm just not a miracle person.
Angry Goose
LalaLand- hate musicals, but I actually enjoyed it. Also gets props for TWO e30's in it. Edited January 12, 2017 by SILLY GOOSE
The Bookie
I'm really curious for LaLaLand cause I also hate musicals (think the closest I've ever come to really liking one was Once, but it's not a traditional musical) but on the other hand Whiplash was one of my favourite movies of the past five years. And come to think of it Whiplash was also sort of a non-traditional musical. Anyhow. Think I set a new personal best for turning off a movie - approx five minutes into something called 'Arsenal'. Only wanted to watch it because one of the reviews on RT said "It's early, but 2017 has a strong candidate for worst movie of the year!" I was hoping for laughable bad, but this just looked annoying/boring bad. All I saw was the grinning face of the douche from Entourage (no not that one, the other one), a couple of kids biking around aimlessly, then a mustachioed Nic Cage torturing someone. Monty
David Brent: Life on the Road Was anyone actually asking for this? Seemed unnecessary to bring the character back. He redeemed himself in the Christmas Special way back when, so not sure why Gervais had to revisit this. *Looks at what Gervais has been up to* Oh, that's why. Moonshinefe
A few actually. The original Star Wars trilogy, "despecialized" versions (i.e. they're far closer to the original theatrical releases as opposed to Lucas's continuous butchering of them with CGI and other modifications). You can find them online if you know where to look, but it's probably against rules to say here. 9.5/10! I hadn't seen them in a decade probably and they were very entertaining. I'd give it 8/10 just because I was in the mood for it after the aforementioned trilogy and saw it in VIP lounge. Maybe less enjoyable otherwise. The Bookie
Hunt for the Wilder People 9/10 Well, that was just delightful. As if I need more motivation to sell all my possessions and move to New Zealand.
