Rate The Last Movie You Saw - 2

It was truly, truly terrible. How the F--- do you have a movie called 'The Hangover' without an actual Hangover?

The only way I can see giving it respect if it's a meta-trolling job from the creators, like "Hey, remember how much guilty pleasure you got from watching those two other movies? Well, here's what the hangover from that feels like, now sit still for the next two hours and watch this piece of sh!t."

Funny, I was actually really disappointed with the 2nd one. And pleasantly surprised with the last one... Maybe my expectations just changed?

Yeah, everyone's different. I was disappointed with #2 when I first saw it, but rewatched earlier this year in anticipation of the 3rd and it was much better than I remembered. Doubt I'll bother rewatching that, the only scene in the movie that got an lol out of me was Ken Jeong singing Hurt at karaoke.

Anyways - Captain Phillips, 7.5/10. Fairly mediocre movie but Paul Greengrass's direction elevated it, I love his shaky handheld camera style, and the script did a surprisingly good job of humanizing the Somalians to ensure the story shows both sides of the equation.

Gravity. 8/10

Would have been 7 but Sandra Bullock looked great in those NASA short shorts.

As a sci-if fan, I went into this with huge expectations. It was a great flick, beautiful imagery but I just didn't connect with Ryan at all. And I could do nothing but roll my eyes at the scene with the fire extinguisher.

The scene near the start where they were floating above Egypt and The Nile.... Beautiful.

Gravity - 9/10

Great movie, ending was great. The story could've changed at a moments notice and it would've made sense either way.

What if she never actually woke up in the Soyez capsule. Boom.

Such a generous rating

I'm going with a big fat 6.

Great (amazing, spectacular) visuals. But after the 30 minute mark the movie was one ridiculous sequence after the other, so much eye rolling. Awful dialogue, domino effect of "what could go wrong next?" type scenarios, occasionally interrupted with dumb, emotionally empty scenes like dogs barking and "sometimes... i just... drive." - yeah okay.

Visually great (one of the best I've ever seen), but in its attempts to be a three-part narrative (act 1: setup, act 2: conflict, act 3: resolution), it was awful

Sooooo disappointed

I walked out feeling utterly robbed. I felt physically angry. The two people I saw it with disliked it as well, and they aren't even snobs. Who the hell are these people giving it 10/10 reviews?

(and yes, I felt angry primarily because of my sky high hopes and expectations, so curb yours ASAP)

Doesn't hold a candle to Children of Men, does it? I'll wait for Blu Ray to come out, not spending any money. Still recovering from the disappointment of the last big space themed movie (Prometheus)

I recently rewatched Leon trying to understand why it's such a cult favorite. It's a decent enough movie but I just don't know why it gets the praise it does. That weird Lolita like chemistry was uncomfortable but aside from that, nothing really stands out. At all. 6/10

I loved Gravity, but no, not as good as Children of Men, which is one of my favourite films.

As for Leon, I saw it when it first came out and I really liked it. It is also has a very European feel, due to the director/writer. Reno's character is so obviously tortured, sad, and alone. Not surprising that he takes Portman under his wing after what happened to her.

What did you love about Gravity?

I compare it to other films in its genre, and I found it far superior to the majority of space films, which tend to get a lot wrong.

It's just the little things. For example, most films make it seem like anyone can work on a space ship/shuttle, everything is so easy. However, Cauron made it seem like you actually have to know what you're doing when you're in space. Also,I loved how, unlike every other space film ever done, Cauron insisted that there was no sound at all in space, which really racked up the tension.

As for Bullock, this was the first film since Demolition Man that I liked her in.

You should check out Moon with Sam Rockwell.
