Yeah, I think the CT scan confirmed Kesler's bone was completely healed. (Didn't someone say that in an interview?) So, if he's feeling up to speed I'm happy to see him return.

Right now, I'm more concerned with the fact that Tanev didn't skate with the team. He's been getting banged up a lot lately and I'm worried it's taking its toll. I really hope he takes some time off and heals if he needs to because we need him healthy and spring loaded again come playoffs.

A little more detail on Higgins and Tanev (which was pretty much confirmed again by Gillis on the Team 1040 this morning):

Winger Chris Higgins' knee injury is not as serious as first feared and the Vancouver Canucks could have him back before the end of the regular season.

Coach Alain Vigneault said a scan indicated Higgins has a "mild strain."

"So we are looking at a couple of weeks," Vigneault said Thursday before the team left Calgary for Denver.

Vigneault said if Higgins' rehab goes well he could be back before the end of the regular season. The Canucks finish the regular season on April 27 with a game in Edmonton.

Vigneault said defenceman Chris Tanev remains out "indefinitely" with what is believed to be a foot injury. But general manager Mike Gillis sounded more optimistic about Tanev's return.

"We think he'll be back fairly soon as well," Gillis said.

Tanev has missed two games with his injury, while Higgins sat out his first game Wednesday night.

The aforementioned Gillis interview on Team1040:

Summary (including other things):

  • Situation with Butler as backup: started that morning and they have a list of goalies in each city in the event of an emergency, give them jersey and under gear plus $500 contract, players actually wanted him to play at the end but wasn't really appropriate to put him in, would have been available to play if needed though

  • On Luongo and his nervousness/butterflies: Lu's been a pro through the entire episode, competitor and great relationship with team and players, wants to perform well when he can

  • Trade deadline a difficult day for everybody, heat of the moment for Luongo, no different for him, they were close to something happening but like a lot of trades it didn't

  • Canucks were involved in a discussion with another team that would have played a major role in completing the trade if it happened, moving what Toronto had offered

  • Was there another team other than Toronto it could have happened with? Yes.

  • No chance for a compliance buyout "at this time"

  • Higgins injury is a mild MCL sprain, not that serious but can be nagging so they'll see how it is in a few days

  • Booth not likely to be sooner than 2nd round based on the injury he had, outside possibility for 2nd round though

  • Jensen will stay with Chicago is they make the playoffs, could be an option in the playoffs as he can play in the NHL

  • Schroeder much the same, consistency is the issue and they haven't considered him on the wing but they could if they had to

  • Tanev injured ankle in a hit against Calgary, has had an MRI and is in a walking boot, uncertain how long he be out for, not that serious but serious enough to keep him out to let it heal, out 7 days to 2 weeks

  • Kassian has good vision and hockey sense but with young plaers want to see that every night, every shift, he and Kesler are competitive guys and can be a good line, people are recognizing Kassian is a highly skilled player too

  • Schneider will play his share of games down the stretch, was aware Luongo might not get traded going into the season and Cory has proven he's capable of handling it, both goalies will be well prepared to start in the playoffs but clearly Cory has played well enough to earn the spot

  • Speculation around Peoria moving to Abby, no developments at this point, there's a chance they could stay in Peoria but also looking at other locations as there's high demand for AHL teams
