Schroeder...Exactly what Kesler Needs?

I would try Hansen on the 2nd line before Raymond... But i dont think we should split those 3 up in the first place (Raymond, Schroeder & Hansen) Great 3rd line. We now have to replace Booth's spot to have a real 2nd line when Kesler gets back.

We've seen the best and worst of Schroeder up here in Vancouver, but something tells me that Schroeder can finally be that playmaker that our second line, mainly Kesler needs. We all saw Schroeder's great passing ability last night when he set up Weise, he looked like a natural playmaker on that play. The only issue is that Kesler and Schroeder are both Centers.

It's clear to me that Kesler is more suited to the wing, he has the great outside speed and the great wrister. Can you just imagine Schroeder feeding that puck to Kesler on the rush? It might just be a great duo, and work out great for both players.

My proposed line up:

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows

Raymond-Schroeder-Kesler

Higgins-Lapierre-Hansen

Pinnizotto-Weise-Kassian

That Raymond Schroeder Kesler line is full of zip and speed, and it could definitely do some serious damage. Would love to see this when Kesler returns. Size won't be an issue if you're fast, and plus, we still have Kesler on that line, so it's not all that small. We can still have Kesler taking all the draws and have Schroeder take them when Kes gets waived.

What do you guys think?

People need to stop thinking in black and whites, and pre-defined roles.

Instead, how about looking at the players hockey acumen, and ability to play the GAME. Kesler's defensiveness makes him suitable for C, and PKs, while his offensiveness makes him suitable to play either wing and on the PP.

Chris Higgins is another example of great hockey acumen, he's so versatile, and that more than having a positional specialist is key to team success because it gives the coaching staff (provided they are intelligent enough to identify these qualities) more diversity when it comes to planning a game day roster and formulating game plans.

Faceoff ability can be taught, and with Shroeder's lack of upper body strength relative to the majority of Centers in the league, he just needs to learn how to employ a lower center of gravity as leverage and work on his timing; once he accomplishes that his faceoff ability will be just fine.

I look at Kesler as being a highly defensively capable Evander Kane, perhaps not with the offensive upside (I believe Kesler will plateau as a perennial 25-30 goal scorer, more with the right playmaker [schroeder?] feeding him the puck).

the best of shroeder is when he is on a line with hansen and raymond...why becuase their skilles match... they all have great speed... makes for great chemistry... the worst is when the coach can't see that and breaks the line up.....thats why we don't have chemistry... keep this line together they have too much speed for the other team to handle.....

Higgins - Kesler - Kassian

Raymond - Schroeder - Hansen

Sestito - Lapierre - Weise

Pinnizotto

The thing is, without Booth, we need to move Hansen up to the 2nd line as he is the next best available option (some would argue that he is the best option even if Booth is healthy). Then we have to move Weise up to the 3rd line (which isn't a bad thing IMO - Weise plays a similar game to Hansen - just not as good), and move Pinnizotto into the 4th line where he's shown some grit and tenacity.

Although this looks good, it is not ideal. I'd like to see us make a trade for a top 6 forward - preferably a center who can play wing on Kesler's right side, or replace Schroeder on the 3rd line and move him to the wing.

EDIT: Forgot about Kassian.

Would still like to see us get a 3rd line center. Schroeder is playing well, but he is a rookie.

It may seem a bit weird moving a guy like Kesler over for a rookie, but even Laurence Gilman suggested it:

"Ryan is a finisher, he's a shooter and he's a unique centreiceman (he's also really good at Faceoffs which is a key role for a centreiceman)," explained Gilman, "but some of the best hockey Kesler played in my time here is when he played right wing, with Mats Sundin in the middle." He continued to discuss a scenario in which the Canucks might consider moving Ryan Kesler over the wing, "When you have assets like Jordan Schroeder you have the luxury of maybe playing Ryan with other players."

We have enough American money stealer's on our team, who lack a winning pedigree.

Kesler won us a silver already in the sc finals, thats the best youll muster from some team usa players, and although i like schroeder i dont us really going anywhere with him.

So kesler, centered by scroeder and who else higgins? Sounds like another silver medal for the canucks, not a SC ring.
