MANGO
Well with all the changes going on this season and end of season, maybe we could convince him to stay. I would buy him out, but only if he agreed to resign with Vancouver for the bare minimum for 5 years. We would save allot of cap space and be able to afford some real d-men and or a 3rd line center. Also we could keep both our goalies. Then, later on, if need be, we could trade him for a real asset coming our way. I know, not my money, but your gonna have to pay it out eventually......your not circumventing any rules if you buy his contract out. It's like having a free goalie...... IIlIlIIllIlIIIlIl
10000 really Elvis? And only 1 lui fan? I said it from the start and my opinion was cemented after seeing the saga dominate the playoffs and Cory play absolutely horrendous.
IIlIlIIllIlIIIlIl
None of those are elite goalies. Elite goalies play late intotheir careers. Check out lLuis stats To compare him to those guys is absurd

theminister
Chris Osgood wasn't an elite goalie? I beg to differ.
IIlIlIIllIlIIIlIl
Patrick Roy retired when he was 37, Ken Dryden when he was 32, etc. Sure, some goalies play past their 40s but to say Luongo will for sure is absurd.

DeNiro
No, he wasn't. He was a good goalie, great team guy, and a clutch playoff performer in some years. He was the beneficiary of being on great teams but he was never in the conversation as a top 5 goalie.

apollo
You're legitimately the biggest Luongo homer I've ever seen.. What are you going to do? Hope Cory fails when Luongo leaves?
IIlIlIIllIlIIIlIl
then why does he have such a long contract??
apollo
Then neither was Tim Thomas. I think he's a good comparable. He was elite IMO, even if it was only for a short time.
TIGER SINGH
Because, Gillis made a mistake on signing him to such a long contract. He's a good goalie but if he retires while the Canucks still hold his contract, they're screwed. Gillis cannot read the future and how long he'll play for.. It was just a boneheaded signing
