Absolutely. Pleasantly surprised how I can ensure I’m getting the right foods, as well as the right quantities, without sacrificing taste or what I like.

Also found that homemade energy/protein balls are not only ridiculously fast to make, but a phenomenal pre or post workout snack.

What is your receipe for those homemade energy/protein balls?  That sounds like a nice treat, and quick.

I want an option like this but with more protein. Maybe something that includes protein powder.

I’ve got some powder I’d probably throw into it. Check the comment section on the site. Someone might have added it already with their results. Whenever I make something off allrecipes, I always go to the comments section to see what else to add, subtract, or improve on. 9/10 I make a change.

Does anyone do intermittent fasting without the goal of losing weight?

I'm thinking of trying the 16/8 method. All my life I've hated breakfast but forced myself to eat things because I thought it was what you're supposed to do. I think I'll start skipping breakfasts but continue to eat the same amount of food.

I could never do IMF. I like food too much. And unlike you I REALLY like breakfast.

Curious to hear how it works for you though  :)

This. I usually have granola with hemp hearts, raspberries, and almond milk. But once a week or so, I’ll make scrambled eggs (with grated parm) and sausages. No way I could skip breakfast. Partly because I love it, but also because I workout right afterwards. I need the energy.

Our building had a fire drill right at the start of my workout today. Lost at least 15 mins to my workout.

Inadvertent intensity increase as I pushed through with minimum rest between sets. Turned out to be a great workout after all!

Will let you know. Based on what I've read, this is what I'm going to do:

Fast for at least 16 hours beginning at 9pm.
Do this every other day
Coffee and green tea during fasting is okay
End fast with bone broth/small meal to warm-up stomach; 60 minutes later have a bigger meal
When breaking fast, don't combine fats and carbs
Workout during middle of fast (i.e., the next morning)
During fasting period, soluble vitamins okay; soft gels like fish oil are not
Add salt to water throughout the day

That is easily what I would define as a form of torture.

have fun.

The fasting gets easier the longer you do it. I’ve done s little bit of IF but dabbled in longer fasting for the other alleged benefits like cellular replenishment and whatnot that came with 24+ hour fasting. Did s couple fasts up around 36 hours. Once adapted the 24 hour fasts were quite  easy and I actually felt really good. Evening working a physical job was easy, I felt better even. Give it a couple weeks and I think you’ll find IF to be a breeze.

My biggest issue of late is lack of sleep.

Don't know what is going on with me.  A few weeks ago I was getting great sleep. Waking before alarm was set so I would go out for a walk.

Last two weeks I have been waking up regularly anywhere from 2-4am. Totally throws me off. I can feel it in the gym. Just can't push how I would like.

Did you change the timing of your workouts? I found that if I worked out any time after like 7-8pm that I'd get terrible sleeps.

Might be my hockey schedule. Just started up again in that time frame.

I never had an issue with exercising late. Found it was good stress reducer.

However if I did anything competitive that was a different story.

Could be house warming up, bad pillow, stress of Shift-4 life  lol

I always workout in afternoon. Great way to break up the day!

Down from 194 to 175, from March 21st to May 22. Haven’t missed a day of working out during the week, and I feel phenomenal. Some days are still really hard to keep eating relatively healthy and not have junk food, but I’ve been able to quickly supplement those cravings with a handful of almonds and some water, and then everything is good after.

Side note. Just finished working out, and while there are much funnier things in life, I get a real good laugh when older guys try hard to hit on younger girls at the gym, and get shut down. This guy must have been 45, and he was hitting on the girl at the desk, who is definitely no older than 19. Simultaneously pathetic and funny.

The fact that you classify 45 as 'older' cuts me deep.

As for the side note, I see the same thing at the golf course with the really old guys being extra nice to the beverage cart girls.  I agree, it's both sad and funny.

 I did say “older”. I’m turning 37 on Saturday. And while I’m not “old”, I am older. And certainly “old” and “pathetic” if hitting on a 19 year old at a gym.

Now, if that same 19 year old is on her way to becoming a doctor, then it’s smart, not pathetic ;)
