GB5
When you start claiming missed opportunities on drafting star players that went late first round and second round on, it's not just the Canucks that missed out, it was the entire league which just goes to say, you never really know when you're drafting 17-18 year old kids. frazzY
So what you are saying is Burke Nonis sucked at drafting and its still to early to judge Gillis on it. I think Gillis has a knack for young talent. Tanev came out of nowhere, Corrado was a late rounder, and im very excited about college ufa lain and late rounder blömstrad. Im hyped on Gaunce and Jensen too, its bleak right now but i still think our future looks bright. I like the build around Kesler idea and give the Sedins a slightly smaller role. Not necessarily 2nd liners but a 1a1b scenario.

goalie13
Agreed. It's that type of comment that annoys the crap out of me. The draft is not a crap shoot. It is a competitive trial that requires man hours of investment, knowledge and diligence for years before and after the actual day. The draft is no more a crap shoot than a business investment is. theminister
I'm sorry that I annoy you, but all the 'we should have drafted' threads are even worse. I do like your analogy though. Sometimes people put several hours of diligence into business opportunities and they still flop. The problem with the draft though is that you can't always measure the human element in such young kids. If it was just about research and investment and such, we would never see busts like Daigle, Brule, Stephan, etc. And we would never see teams pick up gems in the later rounds either. But it happens. To this point, nobody has found a sure-fire formula for what makes the perfect draft pick. That's why it is, to a point, still a bit of a crapshoot.
