canucksnihilist
If the last reset was 5 years ago, I assume that reset means the following: * We get a player like Mats Sundin short term * We don't do much else * We try to get a defenseman that should play in top 4 every year. Maybe the new reset will be: * We ditch bad contracts * We don't do much else * We try to get a forward that should play in top 6 every year. That's kind of all it means to me... not much... Anyone have some insight?

ilduce39
I said this before.. MG has never had a defining offseason in which he was forced to make significant changes to a team clearly at a crossroads. He's been simply okay so far - these next few months will make or break him as a GM.

Plum
Reset to be like the 2010 team. He was talking about when we were successful in the same topic. Not getting the same exact players, but have players like that.
Special Ed
To me GMMG meant that we will rethink team strategies. Wether it's play style or type of players aquired. Either way I can be satisfied with that and feel that mainly some more size and offensive punch is needed.
S.Mouse!
The last reset included bringing in players like Kyle Wellwood, Steve Bernier, Brad Lukowich, Lawrence Nycholat, Rob Davison and Jason Krog. If that doesn't get people excited about this summer, I don't know what will.
DIBdaQUIB
A proper re-set requires a change in the dressing room leadership. THe core has shown it can't change what has been plaguing this team for 3 years now so it will likely require a change to coaching staff and a dismantlin of the country club atttitde in they've enjoyed. The comments the players are making about their leadership and accountability within the room just ring hollow to me. Kesler commented about how the players like having the freedom to be accountable to themselves. Well...who wouldn't want a job where they don' tactually have to be accountable to their boss or owners?! The problem is, they all put their hadn up and acknowledge they need to be better but then seem to think they are absolved for admitting their failure. THere needs to be a meaningful change in how the team is led. Hearing HItchcock call out his players, particularly the core long-term players was refreshing. THe Nucks have played uninspired hockey for 2 years now and well below the level their pedigree would indicate they should yet, everybody gets off without any real repurcussions. AV doesn't speak to anyone excpet to say the other team deserves credit and they (Nucks) weren't good enough. Gillis blames the short season, injuries, difficulty in making trades etc etc. What happened to the team he said he believes in? Some key players have to be moved to shake up the core and make it clear to the young players and any new-comers that this team, will hold all players accountable equally. A new coach should be even-handed and reward/promote purely on merit and demote accordingly. Too many of our so-called top players have gotten preferrred assignments based on performances from years ago. TIme for new coaches, new players and new attitude. Gillis has lived off the players put together by his predecessor. Time for him to show if he can now create a team that can compete in the new NHL.,

TimberWolf
Maybe what some of you need to do ahead of time is make your call about what you expect a reset or off seasons moves to be (Besides "fire MG!!!!11blah blah) Call your shots now instead of deciding ahead of time you won't be happy no matter what happens. What do you think a reset should be? I personaly think we should give the core one more season with a new coach and coaching staff and no goalie soap opera. Some tweaks beyond that to fill some holes. If that doesn't pan out, blow it the hell up.

DeNiro
This was the last season that we could really take advantage of the cap. Instead we had over 16 million dollars sitting on the bench most nights. Sixteen Freaking Million!! Booth, Ballard, Luongo, Malhotra. You realize what we could have done with that amount of cap space if we cut ties with these players like we should have in the summer? Now with the cap dropping and players getting raises, we barely even have enough to fill the holes we have. Which means alot of them will have to be filled by rookies, and we're not going to get much better. If he says the team is going to reset, then actually reset. Otherwise don't pretend like we can even fix our problems with the teams salaries structured the way they are.

Kosmo Kramer
A Mike Gillis reset, to me means erasing the beliefs he had been using to manage this team. He is going to re-assess our players talent and skillsets, Who should be built around, what strategy best suits them and the game today. Compare AV to available coaches and systems to mesh with what his new idea of what the canucks should be or become. His first "reset" he decided the sedins and luongo were the core. And they needed an offensive system and offensive players to support them and move forward. Whether AV could lead that group. And that he saw us as skilled offensive team, that played hard between the whistles. He wanted NCAA kids and those praised for maturity and leadership. So now he wants to "reset" again. Who to build around? What strategy can the players accel with in todays game? Who is the best coaching candidate available? Hopefully not a.v. canucksnihilist
I concur that this team can still win with the skill approach. And the waste this year was 16m not playing.... Maybe this team has already started to go bigger and slower... And that has caused some of the demise. Did we lose the SCF because we weren't big enough? Tough enough? I say NO. We lost because of freak injuries. Kessler Laburnum? Hamhuis hip injury? Freak injuries... But I feel that the team has thought they needed to get bigger and slower since the SCF... The management team and coaching don't see clearly if that is really the case. Hope for Chicago / Detroit - Pittsburgh / Washington finals to snap them out of it... TO would work too!
