They’re so out of touch’: British Columbians yearn to move isolated island capital to Vancouver

Born raised and spent most of my adult life in Victoria. Was offered a job a roughly double the wage in Van but had a young family at the time and refused to move them to the big smoke. Best decision I ever made.

The Wet ones post mentions the "amalgamation" of Vancouver Island and British Columbia. I think V.I. should be a separate province since it is so different from the mainland in so many ways. That way we could have BOTH cities be capitals, eh?

When the Big One finally hits coastal B.C., while Vancouver’s earthquake-proof skyline and the region’s many wood homes will come out largely unscathed, the province’s iconic Parliament Buildings will most likely topple.

That’s at least according to Zeidler Partnership Architects, the firm hired by the province in 2005 to find out how the Richter would treat their legislative home. The firm did not mince words: Parliament will be rubble, ministers will be dead and a stunned populace would be left to “more easily turn to civil disorder.”

I hate the place, but Surrey seems like an obvious choice if they were going to move the capital.

I wouldn't be in favour of a building in Vancouver unless it's built in the downtown core.

Also, Victoria would become a "ghost" town if this ever happened.

If anything, its Vancouver Light.
