Gudbranson-TSN suggests as Trade Bait

Recommended Posts

Reading TSN's off-season plan for Florida and they actually suggest Gudbranson as trade bait.

Thinking to myself in my own dream world....

"Wow!!! What if?!?!?"

I know his plus/minus is ice cold in his 2 seasons but surely on a more defensive team and better development, that could improve

Luongo/1st?

Luongo/Corrodo/1st?

Luongo/Edler?

I think if Florida is to move Gudbranson it would be for a guy who could play in their top 6 Forward Role. I don't actually see any deal with Luongo possible. Would love to have him but I don't think that would happen.

Florida won't want Luongo, if they did he'd be there already.  Why would a team rebuilding without a lot of money want Luongo's contract?

Also all those offers are gross overpayments

So I guess no one wants Luongo, since if they did he'd be there already. Must be how it works by that logic, right? And yet clearly there are still teams with goaltending issues and Gillis' phone hasn't stopped ringing completely about checking to see what he'd want for him.

Florida may in fact want him to mentor and support Markstrom over the next several years, and since he's such a fan draw down there it would help them not only on ice, but off. It's also the one place Luongo might be ok with sharing the load and even playing backup as Markstrom gets better and takes over. And when Lu's salary goes down and his cap hit remains the same, that's even better for Florida.

The offers are horrible though.

That wouldn't really be ideal for Florida though. They already have too many young centers, and although a pick and top 6 guy wouldn't hurt, it doesn't really fix their issues. Even for Edmonton, Gudbranson will be a good D but might not be the impact they need right away if he's thrust into a lead role instead of mixing in as a supporting member like he would here.

Florida didn't want Luongo during the season because their season was already lost, so there was no point getting better and missing out on the 1st overall pick.

However, now that the season is over, I'm sure they'll take Luongo. Florida is always looking to hit the cap floor so his contract should be partly of value to them. If Luongo does go there, look for Gudbranson or Bjugstad to come back the other way.

Actually no you're logic is flawed, there are plenty of teams that would want Luongo, they just weren't willing to give up roster players to get it done. Now that it is the end of the season situations change, goalies become available or retire etc, however Florida's situation remains the same. As I said before if Florida wanted him, he'd be there already.

Before you bash other people's posts maybe you should think harder if that's possible

Where did I say anything about what the return would have been? All I argued is that because Florida didn't get him already, it doesn't mean they wouldn't want him at all any more. By the logic of your statement since no team has traded for him to this point no team wants him.

You provided nothing extra to say it was something about Florida's situation, especially since Florida's situation was that they were openly looking to move any number of roster players as sellers at the deadline. They're a team that's less likely to move young talent and high picks because of their financial situation, so more the opposite of your point unless the pieces are fairly redundant within their depth chart.

But I'm glad you ignored my counter point and just restated your original, flawed logic.

How do you know it hasn't? Do you just argue against anything about Luongo regardless of content?

But here's a less sarcastic reply, although your posts about Luongo rarely deserve it.

You can bet he is still getting calls now or will be at least before the draft. There are teams that still need goaltending badly or will need it in the near future, and if they aren't phoning us for Luongo, they're phoning us about Schneider.

Either way, the conversation for any GM inquiring about getting a goalie has to involve the Canucks.
