Dreger believes Canucks AHL team will end up in Utica

It's pretty obvious if that's what happens that the plan is for the Canucks farm team to go to Utica next season, and then have the Heat and the Canucks farm team swap cities the season after.

There was already talk of the Flames moving their team to Utica before, so this makes sense.

And having them in the East doesn't really matter next season IMO. Because there won't be many prospects left on the farm next year that will even be good enough for a call up. And if we do need one it's a good location if we're on an Eastern road trip, or even in some of the Western conference teams farther East.

Well the Flames view this as a viable market, so I guess the Canucks view it the same.

In terms of a trade, it would be highly unlikely and unprecedented.

With that said, I'm just hoping the Canucks can find a city to house our prospects, regardless as to where that might be.

There is also an opening in Houston, TX because the Wild decided to move the Aeros starting in the 2013-2014 season. The Toyota Center is fairly new, and there is a history of hockey in the town. They would also play in the same division as the Calgary, Edmonton, Dallas and Florida's farm teams.

Just because it's unprecedented doesn't mean it can't happen. I mean this situation is pretty unique so I doubt it has come up before.

If both teams are willing to swap cities I don't see why the AHL would stand in the way. The only thing that would change is the players and who manages each team.

Either way, when a big money team like the Canucks want an AHL team, I think the AHL is willing to accomodate them. This will be good for the league as a whole.
