bryguy26
Believe it or not I'm a big environmental person myself, that's a big reason why I chose to live in BC. I care for my surroundings and do what I can to play my part. But I also realize I use resources just as everyone else does. And so do you, UNLESS you heat your house through winter with a wood burning stove, UNLESS you take a cold shower when you come home from work and UNLESS you bike or drive your electric car to get your groceries, you are contributing to the demand, you are part of the problem you complain so furiously about. If we had the sustainable energy abilities to supply our lives then great!! I'm all for that, but instead of putting so much energy into bashing what currently keeps you warm and gets you to work maybe spend that time inventing, perfecting and promoting these new renewable energies and we would be better off. My stance is we need tighter regulations and penalties for the oil and gas sectors, but we can't just shut them down and cancel future projects until we have adequate jobs in the greener energy sector. It's funny how people will be against logging but love to show off their new oak cabinets, complain about the oil rigs while driving around town in their vehicles or hate the damage a mine can cause yet have all sorts of gold and silver jewelry. Ironic? Maybe I'm a bit sensitive over this because I'm going to be working up north soon and it's what's going to be paying my mortgage and allow me to reduce my debt. I'm not defending the oil and gas industry but rather the people who work for them. I still care deeply about our world but don't bash me because I put myself and my families welfare a little above the environment on my depth chart. Just remember if you ever have to move to Alberta for work, which a lot of people have to do, that the reason the economy is so good out there is first and foremost because of the thing so many people complain so much about. TOMapleLaughs
I see the hypocrisy. But i also see alternative energy sources that have been totally ignored. Oil cannot sustain us forever.
aliboy
As long as the NDP keeps running these lame, "vote for us because you don't like them campaigns," they will continue to lose, which is all good.

Heretic
Actually here in BC there's been a ton of run of river and wind projects built, and more on in the stream. Of course, there's a price for that, the cost per megawatt is higher than we would get from traditional sources. Of course, since these are all being done through private contracts (it's BC Hydro not BC Wind) the NDP hated it, and actually had a plan to end this practice! So good news, BC, probably by accident and not knowing it, voted in a party that will create far more green energy sources than the NDP every would. zoner.
Unfortunately, BC will have to import technical and skilled labour from outside the Province to support those "green energy sources" as the Liberals continue to cut and drive education into the ground. ronthecivil
The school system is broken anyways. It teaches the most pointless stuff and you leave there without knowing how to do something as important as paying your bills. I'm not going to need 90% of the garbage they shoved down my throat in high school math classes. I don't see class sizes as an issue either, a lot of teachers just suck at their jobs. After finishing up high school last year, I can safely say there are only 2 or 3 teachers that I had who I think deserve a raise. They kicked ass at their jobs, made their classes fun and interesting, and those are the classes that I learned the most in. Education "getting worse" is as much on the teacher's inability to do their jobs as it is on budget cuts.

Heretic
There's some imported but I know of one project at very least (since I work on it) that does have some people from out of province but the majority are from right here in BC. Most of the rest are from Alberta.

inane
Not sure what definition of cut you are thinking of. The education budget has been going up steeply every year while at the same time enrollment drops.

inane
Almost as fast as healthcare and faster than education. So yes, steeply.
