[Rumour] Leafs will have to bid against KHL for Leo Komarov

Leafs' Komarov already talking to Moscow Dynamo:

The Toronto Maple Leafs may have some competition if they want to keep Leo Komarov in the fold.

In an interview with Russian news agency RIA Novosti translated by Dmitry Chesnokov of Yahoo! Sports, the soon-to-be restricted free agent forward has already spoken to his former KHL club Moscow Dynamo about a possible return overseas.

"(I) won't hide it - I've held negotiations with Dynamo," Komarov told RIA Novosti. "But I'm waiting for an offer from Toronto."

Komarov, 26, scored four goals and tallied nine points in 42 games with the Leafs this past season and had nine points in 14 games with the AHL's Toronto Marlies.

He signed a one-year contract with the Maple Leafs last season for a cap hit of $1.2 million ($850,000 in base salary with $350,000 in possible bonuses).

The five-foot-11, 198-pound native of Narva, Estonia, was the Leafs' seventh choice in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He spent the previous three seasons with Moscow Dynamo, playing 46 games last season with 11 goals and 13 assists with 58 penalty minutes.

I don't think it'll make sense to pay him over $1.5M for a fourth liner. Anything under sounds reasonable.

I think he could get a pretty good contract (somewhere around $1 million and possibly more) from the Leafs if he wants to stay in the NHL.

He is a fan favourite over there and is a very solid 4th line player.

Of course, he's shown he can be a second liner over in the KHL, and would probably get offers that will pay him twice as much as he will get here.
