What's with Bure in the mix?

Well, yes, I know this is perhaps reading into things, but given our season ended way too early and I am still needing some Canucks talk, here goes:

Did anyone else think it was a little interesting that Bure not only came out of his "I hold a grudge against Vancouver" funk to not only attend a game this year, but also came as a personal guest to Canucks owner Francesco when he received a business award. Before you either scream back at the computer, or eagerly type in insults my way, hear me out....

Bure swore he would never set foot here again. He has not been back to this city since he left. He has been doing a good job in Russia (coach, GM) , and now, with the Canucks in clear trouble this year, he is invited into town and had a nice chat in the owners' personal box..???...The crowd erruppted with standing applause and cheers for him; clearly a fan favourite. We could use a little of that fan-favourite/character again (a la Linden or Bure).

Just putting this out there, that I see him coming back in some way to this organization. I don't know this of course, and yes, it's far-fetched.

Just saying that if Gillis doesn't pull triggers this off season soon, I would not be surprised to see Bure in some type of management position. I don't think it will happen, but saying I would not be shocked.

Ya just never know!

It was pretty clear that they were bringing him back to gauge the reaction and set up for having his jersey retired. He will come and do a few charity things with the organization next season and once the ice is broken they will raise his number to the rafters.

According to interviews with Gino and Larionov I heard in the past year, Bure was actually quite worried that he would get booed out of the building and didn't want to be subjected to that. It certainly makes sense as background info when you see how genuinely touched he was about getting the standing ovation he got.

I thought he was here for the Canucks for Kids fundraiser and to talk about maybe retiring his jersey. I don't think it was really anything substantial beyond that.

I would be shocked to see Bure in the Canucks' front office.

FAQ and Bure have known each other since 1994. FAQ knows what Bure means to the fans and what he brought to this city and organization, and wanted to make it right. He needed to talk with Pavel and explain the process and ensure that Bure was comfortable with returning to VAN and seeing how the fans would react. I'm sure it was very cathartic for Bure to hear the Canucks faithful roar in adoration once again, and it was a stunning success for FAQ in seeing how the fan-base would receive Bure. #10 will definitely be retired next season. There's no indication that he would join us in a management role, and to be honest, I don't think he wants to be that intensely involved in hockey operations with the NHL at this time in his life. From what I've read, I believe Bure and his wife just had their first child a couple of weeks ago if everything went according to plan, and it was to be a son, named Pavel.

I'm sure a lot of fans are dreaming of one day seeing the next generation of Bure in our lineup. You never know, but Valeri has two boys (Maksim Bure, Lev Bure) who are teenagers already. Not sure if they play hockey.

This makes sense. It would be awful if his first visit back was the actual retirement ceremony and everyone booed him.

Pavel's return to Vancouver was definitely the highlight of the Canuck's season. We have missed his winning pedigree ever since he left. To have him a part of the organization in any way would be stupendous.

And also a kick in the guts to all the old dinosaurs out there who still have some kind of grudge to bear with King Pavel.
