Making a harder team to play against.

Recommended Posts

Loungo for Kyle Brodziak and 2013 1st

Backstrom is a UFA and was making 6 million. Harding is still signed but has struggled with MS and cannot be seen as a reliable option. Luongo would be an upgrade on Backstrom at a cheaper price. Granlund, Coyle, Zucker makes Brodziak expendible and a loss of a 1st wouldn't be terrible as Min has many good prospects emerging. Brodziak gives us a very solid 3rd line center who is only 28 and signed reasonably for two more years at 2.8 mil.

Edler for Matt Read and Scott Hartnell

Phi deals from an area of strength to try and fix backend. Read is a very effective player still making 900k a year and would be harder to get than Hartnell imo. Hartnell has always been an erratic scorer but is coming off a pretty poor season and is signed long term. I think he has a few more good years but is probably starting to tail off. The emergence of Simmonds and Vorecek as well as Schenn, Courtourier, Laughton, Wellwood, Cousins developing will allow Phi to lose Hartnell and Read.

Booth and rights for Schroeder for rights to Nick Spaling

Booth has had some rough luck and I think has been a better player in vancouver than his numbers have shown. I think the would be a good addition to an offensively starved team. Spaling has already 226 nhl games under his belt at 24 but hasn't proven to be a reliable top 6 C yet. Schroeder doesn't have the experience but gives Nashville a potentially higher impact forward.

Sign Tanev (1.2), Spaling (1.5) , Lain (1), O'Byrne (1), Weise (900).

This team is under the cap and didn't use any compliance buy outs. I think Garrison, Bieksa and Hamhuis will be able to make up for the loss of Edler's offence but Ballard could still be bought out and replaced. I think Tanev has proven that he is a top 4 guy and when injuries occur Ballard,O'Byrne and Corrado are capable of getting more minutes.

This team would be able to roll 3 excellent lines and 1 riskier, but potentially solid line.

Every line would have size and grit without losing skill.

Harntell gives the Sedins size and skill

Read Kesler Burrows would be a very fast, aggressive, two-way line.

Brodziak gives us a legit 3rd line that can play against any line in the NHL.

Spaling is a very responsible forward that has some offensive ablities and would be the most experienced member of the 4th line but I think this team needs a kid line.

Sedin Sedin Hartnell

Read Kesler Burrows

Higgins Brodziak Hansen

Kassian Spaling Jensen/Weise

Lain

Hamhuis Bieksa

Garrision Tanev

Ballard O'Byrne/Corrado

If that is all Edler is worth then keep him. A couple more middle of the road wingers doesn't really help much. If Read was 21-22 years old then maybe but he is 27 (same age as Edler). If the Canucks are going to get older in an Edler deal it needs to be for a legitimate 60+ point scorer.
