Lonny_Bohonos_14
TheFourthPeriod News @TFPnews 1h Philadelphia Flyers :: Briere to be bought out by Flyers http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/phi130523.html … Retweeted by David Pagnotta Danny Briere would like to play out the length of his contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, but the team seems to have other plans. According to a source close to the situation, TFP has learned that the Flyers are planning on buying out Briere's contract this summer. Briere, 35, has an annual salary cap hit of $6.5 million for the remaining two years of his contract, but is owed only $5 million in actual salary -- $3 million next season and $2 million in 2014-15. If the Flyers buy out his contract, Briere would be owed $3.333 million over the next four seasons. Teams can use up to two compliance buyouts and not have those contracts counts against the salary cap. Only Montreal and the New York Rangers have used one of their buyouts. Briere also expects to be bought out, though his preference is to stick around with the team. Several players across the NHL are expected to bought out this summer, including the likes of the Rangers' Brad Richards, who is being scratched from tonight's second-round Game 4 match against the Boston Bruins. In 34 games with the Flyers this season, Briere registered six goals and 10 assists for 16 points.

TheRussianRocket.
Honestly, not saying this cause I want the Canucks to grab everyone, but if this is true, MG should definitely sign him IF MG believes this team has another Cup run in them/will build the team to go far. ...Canucks main problem has been too much regular season success and poor playoff success. If MG thinks we are still contenders, sign Briere. He is hands down the best playoff performer in the NHL, and among-st the top in NHL history. I don't care if he puts up 25 points in the regular season but come playoffs, he turns into a whole different beast, one that puts Kesler's "beast" meaning to nothing. Idk, but I'm just saying if the Canucks want to go for another Cup run, Briere would be a great way to start. If bought out, sign him 2-3 years, $2.5 mill or something along the lines of that and you're guaranteed playoff production.
Drouin
He'll sign with another team. Would love to add him, 1 year 3m?
ButterBean
The thing I love about Briere is that not only is he an excellent playoff performer, but he's a guy who actually knows what to do off of the rush. One of the most overlooked aspects of our offensive problems is that we were generating next to nothing off of the rush. How many times have we seen our players just dump the puck in or shoot from the outside when they could've cut to the middle or made a drop pass. Briere knows when to shoot or pass and can make plays in small spaces.
Phil_314
At worst he should be #3 on that team's compliance buyout list (Bryz basically antagonized himself with Philly and he's not the solution there without the defensive system in front of him; could Pronger get bought out, or does his injured status prevent that?) Master Mind
Needed to get under the cap and I guess they want to keep Bryz around another year. Unless they're finding a way to get rid of him. But would be perfect on the Canucks. 109 playoff points in 108 games I believe. Exactly what the Canucks have been missing, playoff scoring. Darkstar
Briere is exactly what Vancouver needs. Top-six forward who is clutch in pressure situations. He also plays bigger than his actual size. If Gillis doesn't make an attempt at acquiring him he's an idiot.
PlanB
This guy is a Point-per-game player in the playoffs and not too far off that in the regular season. Pronger being injured, doesn't that mean his salary doesn't count against the cap and/or give the team some extra LTIR to work with? Not sure exactly how that works?
