Common sense
SKAGIT COUNTY, Wash. — Both north and southbound lanes of the Interstate 5 Skagit River Bridge collapsed Thursday evening, and the State Patrol said multiple vehicles and people are in the water. The collapse shortly after 7 p.m. south of Burlington and north of Mount Vernon. Traffic is stopped in both directions and drivers are being advised to stay away from the area. Captain Bob
Luckily it looks like a small section of a small bridge. Damage and casualties could have been much worse.

MikeGillis58
We should test the structure of all bridges in the lower mainland to ensure that this type of accident doesn't happen here.

-DLC-
Well guys, that was the scariest two hours of my life....my daughter's on the I-5 on her way to Sasquatch...knew the timing meant she'd be pretty damn close to that area (was frantically Google mapping, etc.). I spent the better part of an hour freaking out, trying to get info, etc. Best call ever...she wasn't supposed to call (as they were shutting down their cells), but did....they crossed the bridge 25 minutes before it collapsed and she said knew I'd be a wreck until hearing from her. God, what an awful night...thank God it seems that everyone's ok. Looks like a truck clipped the bridge...wow, if that's all it takes it's rather scary. Hug your kids, people. Wow, glad your daughter is ok Deb! And good on her for giving you a call. A lot of kids I know wouldn't have spared a thought for their freaked out parents and would not have taken the time to call home and check in Bridge collapses in a developed country should not be happening. We have billions of dollars going into infrastructure. Regardless of all that, I'm glad everyone is ok. So many people drive on that bridge and under it every day. This could easily have turned out much more tragic
