JasetheCanuck
I'm starting to notice a trend among the best goalies within the NHL, a lot of which have adopted much more aggressive playing styles with reflexive saves ( Quick, Thomas in 2011, Niemi, Anderson) as opposed to composed butterfly goalies which are undoubtedly talented, but are slowly seeing greater competition from more erratic techniques. Coincidence or are the goalies of the future going to be seen taking a more gung-ho approach when stopping the biscuit?
Avicii
I think it's because defense has evolved to the point where even if the goaltenders let out a huge rebound, they just their defense enough to clear the rebound. That's why Thomas was so successful his defense was incredible at clearing the crease and getting puck into the corners. Defense has evolved so rapidly within the last couple of years. 2007 Luongo would probably win back-to-back Vezinas right now.
spliced
I think skill/ability plays a big part in some of those guys games. Thomas had incredible determination and scrambling ability. Quick's flexibility is unmatched in the league. Niemi has amazing leg strength. They are the Datsyuk, Stamkos etc of goalltending.
