TheRussianRocket.
http://www.680news.c...ronment-canada/ TORONTO, Ont. – The Atlantic Hurricane season officially starts on June 1st and the Canadian Hurricane Centre is echoing the predictions from the United States suggesting it will be an active season this year. During hurricane season, on average one or two storms directly affect Canadian land, while another two or three threaten offshore waters. “NOAA is predicting that this year will see an active or very active season in terms of hurricane activity in the North Atlantic Ocean, meaning that we expect to see levels of tropical storm activity in the overall Atlantic Ocean that are similar to what we’ve seen in recent years,” Chris Fogarty, Program Supervisor for the Canadian Hurricane Centre said. Officials at the Canadian Hurricane Centre believe warm water could make this a particularly busy hurricane season. “Water temperatures seem considerable above normal and when we see them above normal just east of Africa and into the deep-Tropics, that is the development area for a lot of storms” Fogarty told 680News. Environment Canada is encouraging Canadians to be prepared for hurricane season by assembling emergency kits, readying their homes and their property and following Environment Canada’s hurricane bulletins. “We are expecting a rather active hurricane season this year and the main this is to understand, people need to understand the risks or vulnerabilties they may have,” Fogarty reminds Canadians. U.S. Hurricane officials are predicting 13 to 20 named storms, seven to 11 that strengthen into hurricanes and three to six that could become major hurricanes. Hurricane season officially runs from June through November and the first named storm of the season will be Andrea.
