DeNiro
Tippett couldn't get anything done in the playoffs either. He's sub-AV.
King Heffy
Should be willing to give our young players a chance to succeed, which is very important for next season. Honestly, I don't care what type of system we play as long as there isn't constant line juggling and useless plugs such as Ebbett stay out of the lineup. RunningWild
You do realize Tippett was probably dealing the hand he was dealt right? Pheonix wasn't exactly overstocked with offensive talent so they had to resort to a defensive style to prevail.

Trebreh
Headcoach is Tippett and Eakins his assistant to groom Eakins for headcoach in a few years.
Tortorella's Rant
It would be nice to have a coach that had a little more than a cup of coffee in the NHL as a player, especially with serious playoff experience. Perhaps I'm just nitpicking here.
Lui's Knob
I hope Eakins isn't the coach unless reset means put with the old and in with the new (youth movement like Ottawa)

Plum
Exactly. Nobody knew who Carlyle was until his first season where he coached the Ducks to the conference finals. And then to a Championship the year after that. There's a reason why Eakins always gets mentioned as a head coach possibility. He's one of, if not the best coach in the AHL right now. His teams play fast and hard nosed from what I've seen of the Marlies. And this season they were 4th in the league in scoring, and won their division for the second straight season. NHL and AHL systems are the exact same. The only thing that changes in the NHL is the speed and the skill level. Coaching is done the exact same way. newgm
People need to stop calling Tippett a defense only coach. Do some research and look at his time in LA and early on with Dallas. He coaches the team based on the players he has. And in both Dallas and Phoenix there wasn't exactly a whole lot of talent. In Phoenix he's turned a very average D-core into a solid group, and taught his players to score by committee. If Tippett's available, he's far and above the other coaching options that are out there right now. Plus + 1. It would be fascinating to see Tippett coach this team if he's available, He's consistently overachieved with teams of limited talent. Here's a guy that figures out a strategy to win when he's outmatched, and at least goes down fighting when he loses.

The-Impersonator
Hah. Getting the Coyotes to the conference finals is not getting anything done? Gimme a break. Every team he's coached had financial restraints and he had to make the best of what he was given.
wallstreetamigo
AV's 42 games as a player prove that it really doesn't matter for a coach. Eakins played 120 games in the NHl and countless games in the AHL. He knows what it takes to grind it out and make the NHL, even if it was for a short time. He was also captain of the Moose for those that remember. He played with all three of Kesler, Burrows, and Bieksa when they were just starting out in Manitoba. So there's that connection. His job would be to jump start our young players. Which this team needs badly. The veterans can handle themselves.

Xbox
I don't want Tippet and his defensive boring style of hockey. Perhaps the Leafs are being cooperative for a Luongo deal in the future?
DeNiro
He has no experience in the NHL, atleast AV has experience. Who knows what he will do in the NHL, if we could have Tippett instead with some experience I would rather take Tippett then.

Plum
You completely ignored my point about Carlyle. He was a relative unknown as well. He only had two years experience as an assistant coach in the NHL. Sometimes the best coaches are the ones that are promoted from the AHL. They have the drive and the passion that some long time coaches lose over the years. I would prefer him to be an assistant coach, but if Tippett is not available, and Ruff isn't an option, then I would go with Eakins over some of the other names people have been floating around.
