First Ever Boring Awards Almost Called Off Due to Excitement

Prime Minister takes Most Boring Canadian Category, Mayor Rob Ford least

The first ever Boring Awards took place last night inside the Royal Theatre in Toronto last night. In several hotly contested categories the least and the most boring were named. The Prime MInister of Canada, Stephen Harper was named Most Boring Canadian of the Year while Toronto Mayor Rob Ford edged out the Ikea Monkey and was named Least Boring Canadian of the Year to cheers and applause.

However the event was not without issues.

"We thought this would be an epic year for boredom," said Boring Awards Spokesman Rob Spence. "But really it was quite terrible. So many crazy, interesting things happened the very week of the awards. The Canadian Senate almost fell apart. The Mayor of Toronto allegedly smokes crack. Big wads of cash fly around the Prime Minister's office. It was a disaster for us. We almost called the whole thing off. "

However, the Boring Awards soldiered on and winners were declared. The winners will be chosen by the Boring Academy; a mix of accountants, tax officials and IT networking specialists. Ottawa won in the most boring city Category narrowly edging out Brampton, Ontario and Lethbridge, Alberta.

The awards were inspired by the new documentary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo2YWTm00-w, which states that boredom isn't just a matter of taste. Most people find the same things boring.

The Boring Awards recognize achievement in boredom.

Stoon isn't too bad, but in general, I agree. I spent the better part of the 80s in small-town Alberta and Saskatchewan and a lot of those places are the definition of boring...

There actually used to be a saying amongst travelling musicians back then: "It's 7pm in Vancouver, 10pm in Montreal, 10:30 in Newfoundland....

...and 1967 in Saskatchewan..."
