[Proposal] 2nd Overall Pick from Florida.

Recommended Posts

I see abundance of proposals directed at Colorado for their First Overall, wouldn't going for Florida's 2nd overall pick make more sense.

Luongo wants to go there anyways.

They have Huberdeau for thier future also so they aren't that desperate to keep such a high pick, when we can give them our 23rd.

We might have to take some salary back however due to Luongo's salary. Perhaps Weiss?

I'm not sure about what deal could be done though.

I guess:

Florida trades: 1st round pick (2nd overall), Kulikov

Vancouver trades: Luongo, 1st round pick (23rd overall), 2nd round (2014), Edler

Or take out those Defenceman. Just added that because CDC favors Edler getting traded. (For the record, I don't favor that).

I'd make this deal but I'm not sure too many would be with me on that one. I'm a huge Kulikov fan and I think he can be at least the same level of player that Edler is. His hold out was kind of discouraging from a player personality standpoint though.

FLA is in no hurry to win now. I don't see them trading that pick away unless it's something that blows them away and we have nothing to offer them anything exciting. Mackinnon and huberdeau would be the anchors of that franchise

Could depend on the owners mentality. It's no secret that the Florida Panthers aren't a huge attraction in South Beach. If the Owners direct pressure on the GM to get this team winning NOW by acquiring a strong goalie, it could point in our favor.

However I do agree that they would be patient and wait for the strong offensive tandem of Mackinnon and Huberdeau

The more realistic options are this. If Florida does draft Mackinnon it makes Bjugstad or Trochek expendable which could see Luongo going there for one of those two and a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Alternatively if Vancouver can indeed pry the first round pick from Colorado in a miracle trade, trading that 1st to Florida with another pick or two or a player or even prospect in a trade that would see Colorados pick going to Florida as well as something else for their 2nd overall and Bjugstad or Gudbranson. Logically the first scenario is more feasible as Florida would have the depth at center to make it happen without blinking. Again alternatively about the money issue Vancouver could take back Campbells 7 million cap hit back and reunite him with garrison on the PP which could be, paired with the sedins or kesler quite effective

Nothing in that post says they will be better than Crosby and Malkin.

And the proposal is awful, Florida giving up a potential superstar's ELC for Lu's massive contract. It makes absolutely zero sense for Florida to make such a deal.

People on here need to stop making proposals for the top 3 picks. IF those teams do move them, it will be to move down 2-3 spots, nothing else. Those teams will still want a pick in the top 5, not a 23rd overall pick. They'll want an roster player AND their top 5 pick.

As someone posted earlier, with the Panther's lined up to take McKinnon (taking Drouin over Nathan just seems illogical at this point) would that not make the likes of Bjugstad available for trade? I'm sure with a bit of cap staying on Vancouver's plate, a Bjugstad/Luongo deal could become quite palatable for the Panthers. It would give them a chance to win now, have an impact on the FLA sports market and would give Markstrom the mentor he needs so that when Luongo's game goes south, Markstrom will be primed to keep the ball rolling for the team.

It just seems like the perfect opportunity for Florida to grab a franchise goalie while their future superstar skaters get settled into their NHL careers, and with such a large stockpile of talented centremen, the asking price is practically peanuts.
