Xbox
Good read. Congrats if you wrote that yourself. I don't think there is any conspiracy in the NHL for many reasons 1) (I may be biased because of my hate for Calgary, and my Cousin is Dave Andreychuk, Captain of the '04 lightning). The Flames were the underdog. The goal didn't fully go in, and if it did, Tampa would still have a chance to tie it. Tampa was an offensive powerhouse that season with Richards, Lecavalier, St Louis as the 1st line, and probably the NHL's top line that season. Khabublion (spelling) also was gold that year. 2) Edmonton was also an underdog, and losing your starting goalie in Game 1 of the SCF doesn't help. Carolina took advantage of that and won in 7. 3) Ottawa had a great shot, but the depth Anaheim had was unreal. Pronger and Neidermeyer, the 2 best D in the league during that season and a 3rd line including Getzlaf and Perry. Giguere was also pure gold that year. It was Anaheims time and they won it for Teemu who's future in the NHL was uncertain during/after that year. 4) Vancouver was decimated with injuries and every game was either single handedly won or lost by Luongos goaltending. The Rome hit on Horton, and Cookes hit on Savard gave them the now or never mentality to win it. 5) Nashville and Phoenix would have a cup by now if the league was fixed. Especially how stacked Nashville was during last year. 6) Refs suck in EVERY series. Not just ours! The only conspiracy I believe in is the league want's every series to be as long as possible. Not biased towards/against any team in the NHL. Adversity is an obstacle every team needs to pass.

Tangelos
it's a combination of Bettman and the mathematical odds being stacked against us
Xbox
Did you read that? It's got nothing to do with conspiracies... It's actually the opposite of that. And no, I did not write that....He is a relatively well known statistician/author.
Heretic
Yes that was interesting...but he also forgot to mention that 6 of the Canadian teams were in only 2 divisions and battled each other quite frequently in the playoffs....which ensured a Canadian team getting eliminated...further lessening Canada's chances... timberz21
I believe Perry and Getzlaf were the first line but good read Perry-Getzlaf-Penner Kunitz-McDonald-Selanne Moen-Pahlsson-Niedermayer (That 3rd line owned other teams' 1st line)
FullMetalOilDrum
Because no Canadian team is strong enough to win it. It's a simple fact.

TOMapleLaughs
It's because Bettman wants to grow the game in the US, simply. If Crosby wins here, that helps grow the game. But the final four as-is also helps. Look at the other leagues... When the Jays won back-to-back and then the Expos looked good, those were deemed 'dark times' for baseball, they had a players strike and the game has been a big market league ever since. Expos dead and Jays pathetic. Basketball also has a few big markets that they rely on for success. The Raptors are a joke and forever will be. The NFL not so much, but they make a ton of money on TV deals, while not expanding into Canada (yet.) The NHL is just following suit. Since Bettman came into power, Canadian teams are mostly weak while the American O6 teams have strengthened immensely. I don't picture a Canadian team winning the cup anytime soon. They are taking Canadian fans for granted, certainly, while they expand into non-hockey markets and hand them cups, to varying degrees of success. It might backfire as more fans up here figure this out, but that is doubtful. Just look at TO's blindly-loyal fanbase. The NHL takes their multi-millions and laughs. CB007
Economics before the lockout before has a lot to do with it. Plus the disparity of the dollar. Now economics is no longer a factor so we should see more Canadian team wins. *** For most of these years, 20% of the teams are Canadian (6 out of 30, not including Winnipeg). So the math should be 1 Cup winner every 5 years by pure luck. It's been 20 years since Roy and the Habs won....

La Mauviette75
considering how few canadian teams there are, it's not statistically surprising that none have won the cup in a few years. several have gotten pretty close, and a bunch of them suck. why is this surprising? Apples
Until Bettman is gone, we will never see another cup in Canada.
