-DLC-
Skunk or raccoon? We currently have both critters hanging around the neighbourhood. I'm wondering, in the survival of the fittest, who will outdo the other? I mean if they come face to face in a showdown? I'm thinking the raccoon, but skunks can be nasty. I know the neighbourhood cat, a very large gnarly fella named Harry, has battled one of them and nearly lost half his face. But who's your money on? I'm really curious, as I know they won't both share the space. You can add your own match ups too. Link to comment
BananaMash
Raccoon would win hands down. They seem to be more intelligence, and more agile in their movements. Raccoons also have a wicked temper that's not matched by a lot of animals. A raccoon broke to cover that we put on our cat door at night, and cornered my cat in the basement. Luckily I was awake and hear the noise, so I grabbed the hockey stick in my room and ran to the room where my can is. I gave that raccoon 1 or 2 good wacks over the back with the hockey stick, and it just sat there hissing at me. It finally ran back out of the cat door when I hit it in its head and knocked it across the room. Also, it pooped everywhere when I hit it in the head. And we had to get it new cat door, because it completely wrecked ours when it broke in. Link to comment

22sedins33
Skunks are the most adorably clumsy creatures that exist. They're like newborn puppies that never grow up. They're also pretty stupid Raccoons are vicious, not to mention considerably larger and notoriously clever. The winner? The Coon Link to comment
King Heffy
Skunk's main defense mechanism is stinking. Raccoons cause a lot of havoc for their size. This one wouldn't even be close. Link to comment
Canuck Surfer
I think Marchand has been mis-cast as a rat. For this conversation let's just call him stinky? And I'm backin the racoon! Oh Harry; not the brightest cat. Outweighed 2 or 2 & 1/2 to one by the racoon, without the same teeth or claws. Most cats have wits on their side and just bugger off... They also have speed? -DLC-
That's what I thought too....but wasn't sure because I was sure that skunks could also have a bit of a vicious streak. When Harry the cat appeared in my driveway with a face that honestly looked like someone had used a melon baller on him, we thought he was done. It was brutal and I'd seen him earlier in the wee hours in a face off with a mother coon. Thing was, I was leaving in my car and I drove the car slowly at them, high beams on, to try to scare one or the other away. The raccoon actually did run away/down the path, then Harry chased her! So I knew he was a hopeless case, but he's a big street type cat, so he survived. When I found him in the beat up state I took him to his owners to take to the vet and their reaction was "oh no, it's OK, we'll put Polysporin on it". Derp. Skunk was back out there last night, stinking up the scene. I'll wait to see what goes down...I'm not interfering in this one. Link to comment
MikeyBoy44
Definitely the raccoon. I tried to chase one out of my yard and it turned around and chased me. Bigger than I thought they would be. Link to comment
-DLC-
Yeah, there are some huge ones...they're scary. Squirrels are also kind of badass. My aunt was taking a flat of strawberries in and set them on the balcony rail to open the door...went in, set down her purse and came back out to find a squirrel in them. She tried to "shoo" him away and he did a flying lunge at her. Add squirrels to the mix, on a smaller scale. I had the small, side l/r window open in the summer once and came down to find a squirrel sitting on the inside window ledge. I did the same - went to shoo him out and he stood up on his hind legs and put up his dukes in a "c'mon, I can take you down" way. Then he went out on the deck, stood on the corner of the rail and did it again. I snapped a picture of him - he was like the Chuck Norris of squirrels. I love animals and critters, but they're a little crazy at times. Link to comment
Jai604
The raccoon would win, hands down. They are smart, tough, and can be extremely vicious. They also don't seem to fear anything or anyone. I remember as a kid growing up, most of the cats in my neighborhood ending up dead at the hands of a family of raccoons. Not sure how my cat survived without a scratch (probably because she's smart and didn't pick fights with the raccoons) but all the other cats got mauled. I remember my dad trying to chase one away with a hockey stick and the darned thing just wouldn't leave. Despite their vicious nature, they are darned cute-looking, haha. There was actually a family of raccoons that lived under the deck at my parents' house, and the mom would lead the cubs up to the swimming pool to wash their paws. Imagine the mom there scrubbing her paws like a human being with 6 of her cubs doing the same, lol. Pretty hilarious. Link to comment
