underrated
Sign David Clarkson for three years (probably around 4 million a season is market value) Why: He is a hard nosed player, great playoff type guy who is shoot first, only 29 years old and would be perfect on the line with the Sedins to knock in goals, which allows Burrows to play with Kesler on line 2. Trade Schneider, Kassian, second round pick to NYI for Strome, Neiderreiter, rights to Mark Streit Why: Schneider has far more trade value than Luongo and I don't see why any sane business person would pay 23 million to buy out DiPietro (Possibly if NYI took Luongo, Ballard and probably Booth as well). Kassian is in a bad situation here because of the Hodgson trade. Everyone expects him to develop too quickly, expectations are too high and the trade will always loom. The Canucks get two young players who bring enthusiasm and skill to the team to renew energy, but also who will be long-time pieces for the franchise. Strome fits our third line center role perfectly. Neiderreiter will slot in on the second or third line depending on what happens to Booth. Mark Streit is a puck moving veteran defenseman who is a solid addition to any team wanting a cup run. Sign Streit for two years at 5 million a year. Alternative: Luongo, Ballard, Booth for DiPietro, Strome/Neiderreiter, 2nd round pick Trade 3rd round pick to Tampa Bay for BJ Crombeen Why: He is in the top five in league for penalty minutes as a tough guy, who was also a +4 this season so not a defensive liability. Toughness who can play. Re-sign Lapierre Trade Booth for third round draft pick (he plays too similar of a game to Kesler) Buyout or trade Ballard for low pick Sedin - Sedin - Clarkson Neiderreiter - Kesler - Burrows Higgins - Strome - Hansen Jensen - Lapierre - Crombeen (Jensen moves up with any injury) Weise Hamhuis - Bieksa Edler - Tanev Garrison - Streit Corrado Luongo Lack Overall we fix our holes. Clarkson and Crombeen add size and toughness. Clarkson is a scorer first who gets to the tough areas to bang in the goals the Sedins set up. Jensen, Strome and Neiderreiter all add size and youth. Strome gives us the third line center we need. Streit gives us the veteran puck moving defenseman to quarterback the powerplay. We have a VERY solid top six D. The goalie situation is resolved without taking back DiPietros salary.
Drouin
Clarkson probably would want 4.5-5m per season and no way the Islanders deal happens. They rob us in that. Other than that, not bad,

CanucksFanMike
Stopped reading when I saw that we were trading Schneider..... sorry to all you luongo lovers out there, but he is on his way out. We aren't trading Schneider
Drouin
Keep in mind that Neids and Strome were the 2010 and 2011 #5 overall picks so they have a very high value. And Streit is a top NHL defenseman
