Everybody Hates Raymond
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/coyotes/articles/20130531phoenix-coyotes-goaltender-mike-smith-wants-return-team-stable-contender.html “The biggest part about me signing back here will be: Is the ownership group coming in, is this going to be a place that free agents are going to want to come and play and are they going to spend the money to make this a better team on an every-year basis?” Smith said. “I think that’s the most intriguing piece of the puzzle.”
Lonny_Bohonos_14
He came in a reclamation project, which Tippett turned into a star goaltender. Now he will follow his nose to a juicy contract elsewhere.
avelanch
he kinda needs them to be a contender so he isn't exposed for the average goalie he is.

Dilly Canuck
http://www.azcentral...-contender.html More at the link above. I can't say I really blame the guy. Phoenix is in such a tumble all the time - from where the team is in the standings, to the ownership issues, to having so few fans in contrast to other teams, and more. My only concern is that he's a product of Sean Burke plus the Coyotes' defensive system like Bryzgalov and will have a rude awakening on another team. Ghostsof1915
What are the odds the new ownership group is going to actually buy the team? If I was a player I'd get out of Phoenix as fast as I could. I am surprised the BOG have tolerated this crap for so long. Even if Gary is just a mouthpiece, fold them or move them. The experiment failed. Move on. Expecting 29 teams to keep dumping money into a franchise that's bleeding cash is stupid. Would Gary put even 1/2 this effort to save a Canadian team? Doubt it. smurf47
Smith is an average goalie who thrives off of the system Tippet used in Phoenix. There's a reason he was a reclamation project. Tippet's system is a big part of why Smith looks so good, for the most part.
avelanch
.....and for the most part...you are wrong....Burke is a huge part of who Smith now is...not the system...Coyotes gave up the 3rd most shots on goal a season ago...and shots on goal generate a lot of scoring opportunities..eg tip in , deflections etc.. Coconuts
I don't blame him for considering other options, given the lack of stability in Phoenix. I wish they'd just fold the team, or move it. The Phoenix experiment has been nothing but a failure, even when it had success.
Primal Optimist
I am confident SMith will be a starter somewhere, but I really like him with Phoenix, and I am a mini fan of Phoenix mostly due to him and Chad Johnson, the back up backup goalie. lol If fact all three of the guys that played in net at all last year are UFA right now...its a big lump in the system for Phoenix and I hope they sign Johnson over Labarbs for the main backup job. mpt
For the Canucks sake he better re-sign, the less UFA goalies available the better for a Luongo trade
