bluesman60
If the expectation of the fanbase is not for the Canucks to win a SC then there is something seriously wrong. The only time that fans can lower their expectations is if the team is going through a major rebuild and they can look forward to a few years of the 1st or second picks overall. There is talent on this team but it is not the right mix of size, speed, scoring and character so MG has to fix that soon. This team has been knocked out in the 1st round for two consecutive years. There can't be any excuses because this team has a big payroll with expectations that the winning team is in place. Personally, I hate 1st round exits. They guarantee to leave a bad taste in your mouth and you do not have a great draft position to look forward to. You may be satisfied with mediocrity but most fans have loftier expectations. smithers joe
Agreed. How about Gillis starts trading his most valuable assets for tough players that can actually help the skilled players win today? He set the team back two years with that air head move.
StillCuplessFFS
I would like to know! how many of the Canucks gave everything they had and left everything on the ice, in any game this season ? I think most fans could tolerate the losses, if the team had played with this mentality this season, or any season.

Boudrias
i agree with you but my pet peeve was after the 96 cup run that many still claim was the greatest game 7 ever, people were saying, we lost out on the cup....these guys are bums.....that was such an exciting time....the linden led team played their butts off....they were winners to me. coho8888
I don't expect them to win the cup, I expect them to COMPETE for a cup. Big difference. They did none of that the last couple of years. Look at how they played game 4 this year and that's the way they should have played the other three. They coasted for most of the last part of the regular season and right into the playoffs. That's why some of us are p****d. I had the third round in 2011 PVR'd and rewatched it during this year's run. Huge difference in compete level and hustle. They treated the first three games of this year's playoffs like a regular season game and it bit them in the a**.

nuck nit
but then you have a player that doesn't want to be here and he moves him for what his scouts tell him is just the kind of player he is looking for....you take a chance on a deal like that....some times they work out and sometimes they don't.... maybe gillis should be more open to changing some scouts... bluesman60
I couldn't disagree more. In a 30 team league, it's unrealistic to expect a cup. You're just setting yourself up for diasppointment like stillcupless above me. I'll follow, enjoy having a team to cheer for...obviously hope for a cup but that's where it ends for me. And I don't think there's anything seriously wrong with that.
pimpcurtly
Disagree all you want but most of us are not content with being a middle of the road team.....we expect the team to get better and we expect them to give it their all. This year was a disgrace.
singing chef
You mean '94 don't you Joe? It was the greatest series the Canucks have ever played. Linden was a giant. He cannot look back on his career with any regrets after playing the way he did. Some of those names you mentioned earlier had to be from the old Pacific Coast League. Especially Madigan. Wasn't it Connie Madigan that Don Cherry was partnered with?
canucks_qc
How many playoffs round have been played by the Kings, the Bruins, the Blackhawks, the Penguins and us the Canucks in the last 5 years and how much wins? The Bruins and the Blackhawks have won 40 game that's like if they was in the Conference Finals every years and they lost in 4. The Penguins with their 34 wins, it's like if they was always one win away to go to the Conference Finals. There is us, we would have won our first series, and lost the 2nd some years in 5 other in 6. There come the Kings, they have won only one game more than us, BUT they wasn't in the playoffs in 2009 so their 29 wins in 4 years, it's like the Pens, they would have been one win away to go to the Conference Finals. Those teams compete year after year, we aren't. Bruins 12 series(+1 if they win their series against PIT) 41 wins(+2 wins " ") Penguins 11 series(+1 if they win their series against BOS) 34 wins(+4 " ") Blackhawks 12 series(+1 if they win their series against LA) 40 wins(+2 wins " ") Kings 9 series(+1 if they win their series against CHI) 29 wins(+3 wins " ") Canucks 10 series 28 wins
