Early Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

Was bored at work so I started my mock draft for 2013. I assumed (wish) Chicago would beat Boston in the finals for my draft order.

1) Colorado ---------- Seth Jones

2) Floride ------------ Nathan Mckinnon

3) Tampa Bay --------- Jonathan Drouin

4) Nashville ----------- Alexandre Barkov

5) Carolina ------------ Valeri Nichushkin

6) Calgary ------------ Hunter Shinkaruk

7) Edmonton ------------ Darnell Nurse

8) Buffalo ------------ Sean Monahan

9) New Jersey ------------ Elias Lindholm

10) Dallas ------------ Valentin Zykov

11) Philadelphia ------------ Frederik Gauthier

12) Phoenix ------------ Robert Hagg

13) Winnipeg ------------ Anthony Mantha

14) Columbus ------------ Rasmus Ristolainen

15) NYI ------------ Max Domi

16) Buffalo(MIN) ------------ Ryan Pulock

17) Ottawa ------------ Bo Horvat

18) Detroit ------------ Shea Theodore

19) Columbus (NYR) ------------ Mirco Mueller

20) San Jose ------------ Curtis Lazar

21) Toronto ------------ Kerby Rychel

22) Calgary ------------ Alexander Wennberg

23) Washington ------------ Nikita Zadorov

24) Vancouver ------------ Samuel Morin

25) Montreal ------------ Adam Erne

26) Anaheim ------------ Ryan Hartman

27) Columbus (LA) ------------ Josh Morrissey (Edit :owned by columbus)

28) Calgary (PIT) ------------ Zach Fucale (Edit: originally drafted for Pittsburgh, but Calgary need him too)

29) Boston ------------ William Carrier

30) Chicago ------------ Ian McCoshen

Basically the reason I did it is, I wanted to see how far Kerby Rychel or Bo Horvat could fall to see if we could snatch one of them (Anthony Mantha also). But after that no way they both fall out of the top 20, with the playoffs BO Horvat had in the OHL and Rychel's name/popularity I don't see it.

So I was a little disapointed. I've seen a lot of people interested in Ryan Hartman, but I haven't seen him play. People say he's a gritty player with lot of heart. However it's easier to play gritty at 5'11 and 180lbs in the junior but that his hard to bring at the NHL level with those numbers. I'm not convinced at all.

Therefore I chose for the Canucks Samuel Morin a 6'6 defenseman. In the past few years Gillis picked a little bit in the Q, leading me to believe he has a few scouts overthere. Also he wanted to get bigger, well it doesn't get any bigger than this. He also played well at the U-18 for Canada. Maybe a futur Tyler Myers (hopefully with not meltdown lol).

We have some depth at the Blue Line, but not really in the farm. Therefore giant usually takes longer to develops. If we give him another year in the junior and 2 more in the AHL, by then Hamhuis, Bieksa will be old and maybe not with the Canucks anymore.

Most of my choice we're based on the CBS ranking.

If the last 6 were truly our only options, I'd take Ryan Hartman. We need offensive help and he's a great all around prospect. He would play really well with Brendan Gaunce too. This is going to be an interesting draft.

I've always been a fan of drafting for the future, as GIllis has drafted for the "now" or traded for it, with what results? I've looked at the bio on this kid and agree with the OP. Having a huge mobile young stud with a slapper like that that can actually HIT THE NET is going to be a good pickup in the future. As well, had Gillis not gone off the map with some of his picks like Honz, Rodin and Ebbett etc, and gone the safe route we'd have some offensive depth up front pushing the top 9. Might not be a bad idea to start rounding out, or instead we could trade for another largely contracted Left Shooting defenceman instead and draft a small forward who may or may not work out
