PK Subban wins the Norris Trophy

Recommended Posts

Congrats to PK. I hated on him a bit when he was throwing a fit about his contract, but he can flat out play.

The only problem I have with the Norris Trophy is that it has recently become an award for the best offensive defensemen, and not an award for purely the best overall defensemen as shown by Karlson winning last year and this year the 3 nominees were the 3 highest scoring defensemen.

Or not.

The Norris trophy is flawed, imho. Constantly given to guys like Karlsson and Subban when guys like Chara are by far the better defensemen.

There should be two seperate awards for defensemen. One for offense, the other for defense.

Don't get me wrong, Subban is good. But not that good. True defensive greats typically don't let puff teams like Ottawa trounce them in the playoffs.

Yes. But he wouldn't have done that against the listless Ottawa squad that scored 20 goals in 5 games against Subban's Habs. I'm being argumentative here of course, and it's not all Subban's fault, but where was 'Mr. Norris' when they were being blown out 6-1 twice?

If it's strictly about defense, give me Suter or Pietrangelo this season over Subban anyday. imho Subban won the Norris over those two because of his puff points against weak eastern conference teams. Hell, Pietrangelo wasn't even nominated. We need two awards.
