In this story, current Canucks goaltending coach Roland Melanson has a lot to say about Carey Price.

Aren't the Canucks hated enough around the league without going around talking about players on other team's in a negative way like this? I mean, what does Melanson or the Canucks gain from this?

Even though it could very well be all true, the real question is why even bother saying it publicly? I mean, he sort of sounds bitter that he was fired or otherwise blamed for whatever struggles Price had in his time there.

Moral of the story: even if you're right, keep quiet because there's nothing worse than rustling a few jimmies.

Seriously, do we have to start ripping the goalie coach for expressing an opinion? Sure, he's not exactly being friendly, but far worse things have been said about players. Just imagine if Sean Avery was on this team...

You're not going to at least quote a bit of it for us? And if he's talking about Carey Price isn't it General Hockey, not Canucks Talk?

EDIT: went and checked the story and I'd hardly call that slagging. Sounds like his honest opinion, which frankly I wish we heard more from hockey people (management, coaches and players). Obviously there's truth to it as well since Price played horrible down the stretch and Groulx was fired, so I'm not sure why the fuss.

He's not saying Price will never be good either. He's saying he needs to work harder to play well by not letting his practice slip. The little things matter - just ask people about Fluery who's won a Cup but has been a sieve the last two years in the playoffs for Pittsburgh.

Last I checked, our goalies weren't the problem, so I'm fine with Melanson giving his opinion when asked. We certainly have a different opinion on Melanson's comments and how he came off - and on whether or not his being correct factors in - so I guess we'll leave it at that.

"Carey hasn't stopped deteriorating since I left. He's all over the place now," said Melanson in a report posted Monday. "At some point, there has to be some accountability in the school yard. The position requires a lot of work and Carey hasn't been consistent. He let things slide in practice and it caught up to him during games."

How about they win something before they talk trash.

Until then just shut up. There's nothing worse than an arrogant team that has never won anything.

I think it is more the ego of Melanson that has me worried. It's like he feels he has got the magic answer to goaltending woes, which is not something that's been demonstrated here in Vancouver over the past few seasons. How does Melanson know what is going on at Montreal's practices, and what is being inside the dressing room to Price etc? Either he doesn't and is just making stuff up to again feed his ego, or he has way way way too much inside information from Montreal.

Not sure how well this reflects on Melanson to be honest.

People seem to be forgetting that this isn't some random dude, Rollie is a bad ass goalie coach who has been a big reason why Schneider is good enough to be a starting goalie. He was also specifically asked about Price because clearly something is wrong there when another goalie coach is fired from MTL. Yeah, he isn't pulling punches but ultimately what he's saying is Carey had the ability to be a really good goalie but isn't living up to it. It's all true even if it does step on a couple of toes.
