UFCanuck
I love it hahaha. Love when members of the Canucks speak their mind. The price is wrong in Montreal.
UFCanuck
So, if we keep quiet THEN will we win the cup? Will we become the darlings of the NHL when we keep quiet? No, we won't. So no, we shouldn't shut up. Everyone else can kiss our asses. I don't want their friendship. I want the Canucks to beat them down and make them cry. mpt
Lu had a .928 SV% in 2010-2011 and lead the team to the SCF so I wouldn't necessarily say that. Yeah he may have had a hard time adjusting the first year or 2 but after that he played Rolie's system much better.
UFCanuck
Yet before he was here Luongo dominated the league, was nominated for the Hart trophy and was robbed of the Vezina. Ever since Melansen came on board Luongo's game has never been the same.
mpt
Too many people care about our league image. Winners don't care about what the other people are saying. They are too busy winning.
TOMapleLaughs
It's not like he said this out of the blue. He gave Montreal media a quote to work with. Free story for a lengthened off-season for two Canadian markets.
poetica
Maybe he's worried he'll get fired next and he's making a case for why Montreal should hire him back? Really is kind of crappy to talk about Price like that though. There's just no point in it. Of course, if we actually had any context at all for his comments maybe it would make more sense... hsedin33
How about they win something before they talk trash. Until then just shut up. There's nothing worse than an arrogant team that has never won anything.
poetica
Well, TSN doesn't have the link to the original, but Canucks Army picked up the story as well and linked to the RDS article that had originally grabbed it from the NB newspaper. ON ROLLIE MELANSON'S CURIOUS INTERVIEW It has the RDS link, which has a video (in french) for more detail. The CA article goes on to break down if Melanson was a factor in Price's career before leaving and if he's effective generally.
bd71
It's just bad business as a coach to say negative things to the press about any opposing player. That is bad decision making and it opens you up to lots of scrutiny. The things being lost in his quotes are that it appears as though he would really like to go back to Montreal but then goes on to criticize the most prominent Canadien player. It's never smart to say you would rather be in a different job and then be negative about the player you ultimately would like to be coaching! Is he trying to alienate his current and future employers at the same time?
D-Money
Strangely enough, the worst season statistically of Price's career was 2008-09...the last year Melanson coached him. He crapped the bed in those playoffs too. In 2010-11, after a year with a new goaltending coach, he put on an absolute clinic all year, and even upped his game in the playoffs. So...um... ...yeeeaaahhh...
DeNiro
I remember hearing that Price was a big part of Melanson getting fired in Montreal. I think Price was too focused on partying at the time and not enough on goaltending. That's why Halak was the better goalie, because he worked hard with Melanson. I wouldn't be surprised if he pushed for the team to keep Halak over Price too. But obviously they chose to go the other direction, and not surprisingly Melanson was then fired. The point I was making was that if he really feels that he was the reason for Price's success, then he should let the evidence speak for itself. Bad mouthing a former player is just bad form. And now he's opening himself up for scrutiny big time with Schneider. And he better back it up.
The Brahma Bull
Classless Canucks organization. I do find this a bit weird though. He could have at least said it with a bit more grace. I don't even think Lu would be this brutally honest.
nlife
I read it more as Melanson saying things have gone for a crap since they let him go rather than him saying Price stinks. Price's play is the evidence of their mistake. Still shouldn't have said anything. Not really his place.
wallstreetamigo
Maybe he is trying to lower Price's value so Montreal will trade him for Luongo......
bobopan
No clue why this guy would say that stuff.. just sounds like sour grapes on his end.. and sadly a guy from this organization. Sigh.. Oh and he goes on to say he's take the Montreal job anytime.. geeh.. what about your current ???? job..
elvis15
Nice to see the stark contrast in how people are viewing Toews' comments about being glad the Canucks didn't win in 2011 compared to here. Canucks make a comment, stop whining/that's terrible. Anyone else, refreshing honesty/great competitiveness.

apollo
It was Lu's groin injury that had him falling forward more and losing side-to-side movement. Nothing to do with Rollie. And now he's gotten back into elite form despite that injury because he plays a more Schneider-like positional style. Who do you think taught him how to play like that? Yeah, the guy you're slagging off.
