Here's What Gilly, will probably do...

Recommended Posts

The Luongo non-trade is one of the most drawn out factors this club has had to deal with. So Gilly needs to really hit a home run on this one, by taking so much time all he has done is added pressure to making a good deal. With Philly stumbling the way they did last year, they must aquire a true number one goalie with way less bagage then Bryz. The word is Philly will buyout Bryz then make a move for Luongo. The Flyers have what the Canucks want in Courturier, a young, big, talented shutdown centerman who will develop into a second or even first line center. So Gilly's patience might payoff in the end. The trade will probably look like this,

To Philly:

Luongo @ 5.33 mil + Schroeder @ 900k + rights to MayRay UFA

To Van:

Courturier @ 925k + 3rd 2013

-The deal will happen at this years draft.

-Also, expect Ballard to be dealt for a third round pick to the Islanders.

-The Canucks won't be looking to move up in the 1st round as this years draft is soooo deep and 24th overall will still land you an excellent prospect. However, I could see Gilly trying to get FLA's 2nd pick (31st overall) as this will still land you an excellent prospect. Cost would be two 3rd's.

-Gilly will probably take a very serious run at signing UFA Filppula @ 4.75-5.25 mil. 4yrs. This would be an excellent speed/skill addition to our top 6. Filppula-Kesler-Burrows, great looking line, Filppula can really distribute the puck.If not Clarkson then which would have a more physical less skilled look and Burrows would need to be the puck distributer.

-Don't expect Booth to go anywhere as he will play LW on Courturier's line. Higgins plays RW with them. This 3rd line has a little of everything, Courturier a young star in the making, Higgins a "Salty", savy, skilled winger and Booth a power forward who loves to drive the net and knowing that he's running out of rope will be so very motivated to be considered a top 6 guy.

-Gaunce makes the team as he's committed to bringing his foot speed up and will fit very nice as the 4th line center. Jensen and Sestito will play LW revolving door depending on opponents and Hansen will play RW keeping the 4th line in check.

-Kassian will get his chance to develop into what Gilly believes he can be, an Elite power foward, which is exactly what the Sedins need and believe he can be to. Kass will have even better foot speed next year as well. Which will help him retieving pucks for the twins.

-Edler will not be traded as last season will be a spring board for this season. Edler will come back better then ever and have a monster year. Gilly will look like a genius getting Edler for 5mil. Expect 15 goals, 40 assist from Edler.

-Garrison will play RW 1st PP unit, and will have a career year in points as well.

all this I believe will happen and all for 62.842 mil. a little wiggle room for a trade deadline aquisition...

Flame away...

You think FLA just gonna give us there 2nd pick which is pretty much a late first rounder almost for 2 third rounders? Seriously

I just skimmed this u should lay out the roster nice, I like flips but he is a pretty soft player, not sure if our top six can handle anymore softness

IF your PHI / VAN deals goes through then good on MG BUT it's still a long shot because it depends on what happens to Bryz, and that isn't an easy problem to deal with (most owners are not even considering buy-outs let alone a buy with that much money).

Signing Filppula is an interesting idea.

Guance making the team is a longshot. He is still a kid, and although it is easy to be optimistic that he will make the team, the sobre reality is that the kid probably needs to develop alot more, much like how everyone thought Jensen was NHL ready last year but it was obvious he needed time to improve and work on certain areas of his game.

Everybody wants Kassian to play with the twins but the obvious problem with this is that Kassian doesn't have the footspeed/acceleration to get to the corners-he doesn't retrieve the puck well for the twins. THAT's why Burrows is so good with the twins-puck possesion for that line hinges on Burrows ability to retrieve the puck. Kassian on the other hand is better suited to play with linemates who can get to the puck in the corners and win it- guys like Kesler/Burrows/Higgins. Perhaps something worth trying is a second line of Burrows/Kesler/Kassian and signing/trading for a winger to play with the Sedins. Sedins are definitely a puck possesion line and without someone to retrieve the puck they a much weaker line.

Oh and good ideas/thoughts in your proposal. If even half of it becomes a reality I would be stoked.

I wouldn't mind seeing that at all. Hate losing JS tho because we know at some point we will need a center to step in and play when and if kesler gets hurt. Just wondering who you would sign as depth D maybe a ryan o'bryne Joe corvo? Jordan benn ( yeah he's a lefty but really cheap and from bc) I would wanna keep alberts.

One can dream that this will be a possible scenario, which it really is.

I totally agree on your take on Filppula. The price won't be at all low by any means, but I'd say he's definitely worth giving a look and it would be fantastic if he can play for us in our top 6.

I fully expect Gaunce to make one of the bottom 2 center ice positions, as he is more than capable of doing so.

I still believe this team has a core more than capable of doing what they did two seasons ago, that being said, though Edler may not necessarily be a core piece of this team, I think keeping Edler will be a move that Gillis and company will NOT regret. He knows more than any of you here on CDC how horrendous he's been in the last couple years, and this is pure speculation, but I'll bet he knows from after that bonehead hit on Staal and the last two playoffs that things have to turn around for him and needs to go back to being that monster of a two-way dman he was against the Kings in the playoffs 3 years ago. This is one of the big reasons why I'm routing for John Stevens to be hired as the head coach for this team. He's been a winner at the AHL level for years, he coached a team with almost zero defense to the conference finals, and I know this was straight out of what I call an idiotic Botchfordism speculation article because the guy barely knows jack s***, but I think he did an amazing job with a young kings defense in the last couple playoffs (Doughty, Muzzin, Voynov) and did an unbelievable job getting Doughty to play at that elite level that everyone knew he could. I believe that John Stevens would benefit Alex Edler, and same to be said for our two emerging dmen in Tanev and Corrado.

I agree that we're going to stand pat at the 24th overall. There is already so much gifted talent in this 1st round, especially on offense, and I am hoping for one of Morgan Klimchuk, Frederick Gauthier, Curtis Lazar, Nic Petan, Kerby Rychel, Anthony Mantha, and hopefully Alexander Wennberg if he can fall to us at 24. I believe there will be so many GMs that will one day regret passing on Petan in the 1st round despite his size, but if Gillis really believes that if in today's NHL you need a be a faster/stronger group to win the cup, then I see Curtis Lazar being selected by us at 24th and then if we are really somehow capable of receiving Florida's 31st, I hope we select Jacob de la Rose who's guaranteed a lock to play anywhere in a top 12 forward group and become an excellent role player.

On a side note, if we were to receive the Islanders third round pick, then I think the Canucks should seize the opportunity to draft Sven Andrighetto. He's been passed up in the last couple drafts, but he's projected to go somewhere from the 3rd-5th round this time around. Rumor had it that if there was no lockout, then he would taken part in one of the thirty team's rookie camps. His stock is only continuing to raise, and with the way Swiss hockey has been emerging and the way Canada's always had trouble beating Swiss teams in international tournaments, this is a young fella I'd love to see in the 'Nucks system. http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=70426

I'm right on board with you nitwitt, awesome post! +1

This seemed to make no sense at first but then I forgot that AV is gone. I guess Gaunce and Hansen could both play on the fourth in that scenario although Wiese and Sestito would mean we have too many fourth line guys. Then again Wiese and more likely Sestito could sit in the press box, something we never really had last year.

Also, I really liked Booth on the third last year right before he got hurt. Especially with Kassian, I would love those guys to be our third line wingers next year but meh we got Higgins so I guess he'd better be on the third line and not the second. Imagine

Booth Courturier/Gaunce Kassian

The Florida second pick thing is funny and never happening in a million years though.
