FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Stars have signed minor league defenceman Kevin Connauton to a three-year contract that could be worth as much as $2 million.

Dallas acquired the 23-year-old Connauton from Vancouver in an April trade that sent Derek Roy to the Canucks.

The first year of the contract announced Thursday is a two-way deal, meaning Connauton will make $100,000 if he plays in the minors and $600,000 if he is in the NHL. The final two years are guaranteed, $650,000 for the 2014-15 season and $800,000 for 2015-16.

First of all, this doesn't guarantee he'll be in the NHL. He can still be sent to the minors.

Second of all, if you look at our defense and then the Stars, you'll see why he has a shot of making the team. And it's a slim one at that because they have Joe Morrow now who's a top defensive prospect.

It's funny how everyone on here says our prospects suck, but as soon as they're traded and have any amount of success, suddenly they're a future star. If you had paid closer attention to Connauton when he was with the Canucks, you would know his defensive game is lacking. So even if he puts up 30 points somehow, it will be at the expense of giving up alot of goals too.
