[Trade] Brennan (Fla) for Butler (Nsh)

Yeah, it's odd to have them trading for a defenceman unless it's immediate help to upgrade (like they did with Gill). Maybe they see something in Brennan or this could be more related to the AHL and a need they might have there.

Brennan's not bad though, I'd prefer him to Butler, but perhaps he's not developing well enough. That's what got him traded from Buffalo after he was too far down the depth chart from their other players.

Could even be a combination of those 2. Since Brennan isn't an upgrade over who they currently have in the lineup. So maybe they do need more D in the AHL, and think that they can turn him into a top 6 role considering their track record with defensemen.

Nashville also must be expecting some prospects to earn regular spots in the lineup then to fill Butler's spot and maybe a few others too.

Trade: Preds get Brennan from Panthers for Butler

TJ Brennan is on the move again. The 24-year-old defenseman has been traded from Florida to Nashville for forward Bobby Butler, per TSN’s Bob McKenzie.

Brennan was only just traded to the Panthers from Buffalo in March. Demonstrating the offensive flair that made him the Sabres’ 31st overall pick in 2007, he had nine points in 19 games for Florida.

In Butler, the Panthers get a 26-year-old winger that had three goals and six assists in 20 games for the Predators in 2013. Butler is a pending restricted free agent, and apparently talks with Nashville weren’t progressing. Hence, the trade.

Brennan is also a restricted free agent.

And they've been saying they need to upgrade at forward to produce more offence, but Butler wasn't to be a part of that obviously. Forsberg is one, and maybe whoever they pick at 4th overall is another, but they could also be looking to fill that gap through trade or free agency. I certainly expect they do something with their top 6 though.
